Ameristar 9363 March 2017
Interesting report just came out from an overrun at Willow Run airport involving an MD-83. Right elevator jammed, aircraft rejected well after V1. Aircraft was full with a college basketball team on board.
Could have been far worse!

Before the “never reject above V1” crowd jumps in here, with a flight control jam like that, what choice did they have? Better to skid off the end than roll the sumbitch over in the air and pile ‘er in.
Re: Ameristar 9363 March 2017
From what I read, they literally had no choice, the right elevator was full down and the attempt to rotate was fully counteracted by that. No rotation even with a large control input.
I’ve gone on record saying I always use full length for this very reason, there may come a day when the plane just won’t fly and I would like to think extra runway would be welcomed at that point. I’m sure these guys would’ve preferred to stop on the runway even though it turned out.

"Stand-by, I'm inverted"

Did you read the report? It was unable to rotate, therefore unable to fly, which is also unsafe

Sorry my post was too short.
I was agreeing with the decision to reject above V1, and that was why.
