Watch Those Wires

C-GSDX a Bushcaddy R-120 homebuilt aircraft operated by the owner/pilot was conducting a flight
from a private lake to New Germany Water aerodrome (CCA2), NS with one pilot and one
passenger on board. While on approach to landing the pilot descended early and struck unmarked
powerlines crossing the north end of the lake. The aircraft descended into the lake entangled in the
powerlines. The occupants suffered serious injuries and were assisted by witness who walked out
to the plane as the water was shallow. They were both transported to hospital. Having flown
numerous time into that lake, the pilot was familiar with the water aerodrome and aware of the
powerlines.

It appears that he was somewhat familiar with the landing area.

I do know a float guy who hit some wires while on days off from work. Fortunately for him, the water was shallow. I am curious what the experienced float drivers do in various situations to minimize the risks of hitting power lines.

Nice flyby here but you can see how you could hurt people below even though your aircraft stayed clear of them. You don't see that actual wire contact but you do see the potential results.....

The wires can be tricky. It looks like this paraglider is operating where there would be no wire crossing, then......

...an incredible example of how invisible wires can be.

Too bad the owner/operator of the wires didn't have the balls to potentially save someone's life....

C-GBEH, a privately registered Piper PA17 was conducting a local flight from Russell (CJW5), MB.
While conducting a low pass in the vicinity of a friend's house, the aircraft collided with a power
line. The pilot subsequently maintained control of the aircraft but landed in a field. During the
landing, the right gear sustained substantial damage. The pilot was uninjured and the ELT did not
activate.
