C172 flips over on landing

Post by foxonefoxone »

C172 C-FLPU flipped over on landing. Gladly, no one was hurt during the incident.

I wasn't there when it happened, but I've talked to a few people who were. Apparently she landed more sideways than what even a 172 can handle, started veering off the runway, and hit a little ditch, which caused the flip.

If it wasn't for the ditch, she would have smashed near full speed into a 152 doing a runup.

https://steinbachonline.com/local/pilot ... -roll-over

The article says, "Taxiing"......... I guess technically, if it's on the landing rollout, it's taxiing!

Never seen someone taxi so fast it bends the nosewheel back 45 degrees, thoguh...

I hate it when people mistreat tools. That poor 172 deserved better.

C-FLPU, a privately registered Cessna 172N was conducting a VFR flight from Winnipeg/Lyncrest
(CJL5), MB to Steinbach/North (CJB3), MB. CJB3 is an uncontrolled aerodrome and pilots provide
traffic advisory on a common frequency, 122.7. Upon arrival at CJB3, the aircraft conducted touch
and go landings on Runway 32. On the second touch and go, the pilot noticed an aircraft holding
short on a taxiway that intersect approximately at the midpoint of the Runway 32. The pilot of CFLPU thought this aircraft was going to enter the active runway and applied maximum braking in
an attempt to stop the landing roll. The directional control was lost and the aircraft departed the
paved runway to the left into wet grass and continued through a drainage ditch. The aircraft came
to an abrupt stop and flipped over. The ELT did activate. RCMP, fire and EMS attended the scene.
There were no injuries and the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

I'm sure the '99's would let a male fly their C172 if he was the best qualified of the persons available.

Maybe she
.....Will become a pilot of excellence, like many pilots o know of both genders, and use her great skills to avoid flying C 150's in 95 MPH winds, and contemplating behind the power curve glassy water approaches. We have all done some things in airplanes which were not good.

Really? Are there men out there who still think less of women because of their gender? Aren't we past that yet? A pilot flipped a 172, 'not the first time, 'won't be the last. Learn, and move on....

Sick burn. If this isn’t worthy of a slow clap I don’t know what is.
Respect, Mr. Dar.

Thanks, and I fixed my misplaced quote marks too!

See, even experienced male pilots make mistakes!

Hmmm, and this person is the one who flipped a C-172 and you speak of her great future skills ! and yet, I have a few thousand hours flying doing stuff a lot more substantial than circuits and without as much as a scratch ! And you shit on me ? Boy, what an upside down world!
I am sure CWE could comment on HOW his great abilities caused all those accidents he was involved in !

Best to get back to the subject. I wonder how max braking leads to a runway excursion. Maybe an intentional swerve was attempted as well as it was thought that the other aircraft would enter the runway. Perhaps if done whole skidding, it is easy to lose control.

Could be an intentional swerve and loss of control or possibly in a panic stop not applying equal pressure on the brakes. This is of course nothing but conjecture.

Because a male pilot has NEVER flipped a plane! /s

Are you tempted to make sexist jokes when a dude does something dumb in an aircraft?

If a dude was a member of a dude-only flying club to promote aviation to the dudes and then said dude crashed the flagship of that flying club without any casualties, then yes, absolutely, I would make sexist jokes about that!
