727 rolling Backwards

Post by pelmet »

This one is a bit odd...

Hydraulic failure, landed, evacuated down slides(not sure why). But the plane rolled backwards off the sloping taxiway. Maybe there were no hydraulics to the park brakes. One might normally use chocks as a precaution but if not available, there should be a pneumatic brake that will work....

My only comment is how else would to egress quickly but by the slides, why you ask, they should be armed prior to departure ( not that we all did but it was a requirement) and I'm thinking one is not either thinking about it, not wanting to do the rope trick out of the flight deck and being that high off the ground. Simple open the L1 and slide. L1,L2 and flight deck are only options with 128 ULD's

foot note

Toe brakes must not be used in conjunction with pneumatic brakes. Air pressure wil;l not last long and I don't think chalks are part of evac items -- lol - not knowing the details of the failure all one can say is they did it right - alive to fly another day.
