The privately registered Bellanca 7ECA, C-GEDP, was operating on a VFR flight from Airdrie, AB
(CEF4) to a private airfield near Rimby, AB (6 nm SW). While approaching the airfield to assess the
field condition, the aircraft was maneuvering at low-level and inadvertently struck a power line
which ran across a road. The power line was severed and the pilot immediately landed the aircraft
straight ahead on the road. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, received no injuries. After
landing, the aircraft was taxied into the farm yard where it was shutdown and secured. Aircraft
damage was limited to the cowling and propeller.

C-IEUY, a private Quad City Ultralight Aircraft Challenger II advanced ultralight with only the
owner/pilot on board, was returning to its home airfield, an unregistered 3200' grass strip
approximately 5nm NNE of Carleton Place Airport (CNR6), Ontario, following a local flight. While
on short final approach to runway 32, the nosewheel contacted and severed hydro wires
approximately 275 feet short of the runway threshold. The aircraft lost most of its forward
momentum, rolled to the right, and fell to the ground approximately 50 feet from the wire strike
location, with the right wing absorbing the ground impact. The pilot was uninjured, and the right
wing of the aircraft was substantially damaged. There was a local power outage resulting from the
severed hydro wires.

On 04 September 2021, a Quad City Challenger Ultralight (C-IRGH) was conducting a daytime
visual flight at the Carp Airport (CYRP),ON with the pilot and 1 passenger on board. On final
approach to the runway, the aircraft collided with power lines on the approach path. The pilot lost
control of the aircraft and the aircraft impacted the terrain short of the runway, just inside the airport
property fence line. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. Both occupants received minor
injuries and were transported to local hospital for medical attention.

In case you are wondering how the wire balls are installed..
C-GTVV, a Talon Helicopters Airbus Helicopters AS365-N3 (Dauphin), was conducting Class B external load operations via a hoist at Saltery Bay (49o46'55 N, 124o10'33 W), BC with 2 flight crew members and 1 hoist operator on board. The crew was installing power line markers using an automated robot attached to the hoist hook. The robot is placed on the line and installs the marker balls on powerline crossings. While attempting to remove the robot from the powerline after the third marker ball was installed, the robot became stuck on the powerline and could not be removed using the hoist. The hoist operator used manual cable cutters to cut the hoist cable as outlined in the company’s standing operating procedures. The helicopter returned to the staging without further incident.
The helicopter’s hoist cable will be replaced and a hoist inspection carried out. The robot was removed from powerline using an external load grapple hook.
