Re: Floatplane in Pitt Lake, BC
Just saw an update on the 6pm news.
Apparently a training flight out of Pitt Meadows. One pilot escaped with minor injuries, the other pilot was killed.
My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Re: Floatplane in Pitt Lake, BC
I've been watching this story closely and nothing has been said in the news about whether this aircraft was actually on floats or not...
Time will tell, but the title of this thread might be incorrect. It was pretty snotty out there this afternoon.
Again, my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

It was a float training airplane out of Pitt. It appears that it was GKPD.. Always bad when someone loses their life.

Local news radio station reported it as Pacific Rim's float plane.
http://www.news1130.com/news/local/arti ... lane-crashBill Yearwood with the Transportation Safety Board says it was teacher and student on board from the Pacific Rim Aviation Academy.

According to The Province, the victim is a 71 year old flight instructor from PacRim
"“They were doing touch-and-go manoeuvres,” Bill Yearwood, the Transportation Safety Board’s regional manager for aviation accident investigations, said Tuesday.
After practising five or six of these operations, in which the float plane touches down then takes off again without stopping, the plane crashed, possibly due to gusting winds.

Re: Floatplane in Pitt Lake, BC
just went on the Pacific Rim Aviation website, according to the listing of instructors, could've very well been
Jim Stevens – Class 3 Flight Instructor, Seaplane Instructor, Taildragger Instructor
and according to this article, http://pacificrimaviation.ca/2012/01/31 ... ush-pilot/
"He gained over 2200 hours of real-world seaplane experience at a time and place where all you had in the cockpit was “a clock, a compass, and a map”. Jim veteran of 10 years of flying passengers and cargo around North-Eastern BC and the North-West Territories"
This should'nt have happened..

If you don't like it or unsure how to do it, don't. Live to fly another day.
Stay safe and alert...
