Odorless smoke make me think of pack contamination with oil (dirty socks smell wouldn't be notice on a sunwing flight :D ) or Deicing fluid....

We often get this white smoke coming from the main central vent on Antonov and Iliushin planes here. It is the A/C system...

I don't know about the 737, but on the 320 we don't use APU beed for pack use after deicing.....

What about an engine bleeds off takeoff?

Or would you takeoff unpressurized in that case?

You don't take off with engine bleed off or you'll be without engine anti-ice and wing deice, but most airline take off with packs off for fuel and engine saving. We turn the pack on after thrust reduction.
The article mention the APU as beiing guilty so they probably were running the packs off the APU (we do that to keep air conditioning if the condition demand it), big no no at my airline after deicing for the exact reason they had to declare the emergency, pack contamination by deicing fluide is avoidable...

Interesting difference with the 320. Unfortunately on the 737 sometimes you have to run the APU on takeoff, unless you want to do it unpressurized. Therefore you hope the de-ice crew respects the APU inlet.
