Military rescue crews had managed to parachute into the scene shortly after daybreak Friday, a CFB Trenton spokesman had said.

“It’s in dense brush about two miles off the airport,” Capt. Keith Hoey told the Star.

The helicopter had been flying from its base in Moosonee to Attawapiskat when it went down just after midnight.

+1. Ive been in and out of Moose too many times to count. This is indeed a sad day. My condolences to the friends and family of those lost. These northern medevac teams are top notch people who sacrifice alot to provide the services they do, in the most remote places in our country. My respect for those that do this job!

Fly safe all.

Aerial view of accident site.

Do you know if that's an area that has been cut to get into the site or is that all caused by the helicopter?

Shocking photo to say the least.

There is very clearly aircraft debris strewn all along that path of the cut. It would be safe to assume it was made by the aircraft.

Wow, so incredibly sad.

My crew received a wx ck call shortly after 1250am, accepted with no destination we dispatched at 0100 local edst after a briefing from ornge ymo. It was a blacker than black as a coal mine night, good visibilty , light rain, decent ceilings 4600 ft . searched for 1.4 hrs air time landed at 0326 edst . no joy which; would be made apparent once the daylight came and the postition of wreckage .
As p.i.c. flew several increasing diameter orbits starting at airport then/3, 5/ ten /17 /and finally 23miles north and west at altitudes ranging from 500 ft to 1600ft agl which at night in a/c designed for lower flt levels 200+ knots on a very black hole night with muliple heading changes / we brought our ' a ' game last night . The people we looking for deserved nothing less .

The position of the accident aircraft was such that and in so tight to the departure end of 06( that departure profile perfectly acceptable for rotor wing) / that upon rotation of a fixed wing aircraft into black hole night one must go direct instruments and sops to prevent a cfit which left no time to look off to one side immediately after departure. we flew low and slow hoping that the noise of the ac in a loiter configuation 120/140knots indicated with high rpm on the props woud cause a reaction maybe a flare, but sadly this was not to be .

To Everyone involved last night, the professionalism in ymo //occ/pulse 103/ wabusk 101 /the sar 's out of trenton and the opp,it was outstanding along with the first responders on the ground / we were honoured to pay our role and only wished the result was different. my sincere condolences to families and friends /fellow coworkers they will be dearly missed in this corner of the planet but not forgotten in the hearts of those who knew them and their work /best regards old n cold
