Be1900 vs Cube Van
It is 25 minutes before the evening news here in Calgary but there was a news blurb and picture of a cube van laying on it's side on the ramp at CYYC and it looks like it may have tangled with a CMA Beech 1900. From the picture and blurb, it appears to be a non injury fender bender. So watch this evenings news for more.

Huh. Looks like CMA recently changed their paint scheme and heavily modified one of their Beech 1900's (@oldtimer). Them thar newfangled units sure are Ford tough though!

When the news flash came up it showed a picture of a cube van on it's side and a Be1900 in the background. The Global News says it was a Jazz Dash 8 and a catering truck that came together. The Dash 8 was being repositioned so I take that to mean there were no passengers on board. Maybe the catering truck spotted a rabbit and was thinking rabbit stew and never noticed the Dash. I wonder if heads will roll over this. At least the news people did not dig up some totally irrelevent other accident just to fill in the quote of required words to be spoken,

Re: Be1900 vs Cube Van
Jazz maintenance in YYC used to do the towing until about 3 or 4 years ago when it was decided that it would be cheaper to hire a full time tow crew. It pays pretty low with bad hours so it doesn't encourage people to stay long unless they really just want flight benefits. Then there is the reality of under staffing, people calling in sick, vacation and the official procedures become flexible in regards to wing walkers. That being said, accidents happen, and there can be lots of factors like a catering truck zipping up at last minute or parked facing the wrong way because they are waiting for an incoming flight to shut down for a quick turnaround. To knock a truck over though I'd say it would have be doing a 90 degree turn off a place like gate 1 where your tail and outside wing spin around very fast and the driver has no visibility of the far side of the aircraft. Even following procedure a wing walker would have about 2 seconds to warn the driver if they were new and not aware of the potential obstruction and the speed which the back end will swing around at.
