If you have just joined, you cannot PM yet. You will have to add something to a discussion or two.

Yes. Contacted.

If you are brand new to AvCanada, you will not be able to PM and I can't send you messages until you have made a couple of posts. Sometimes the moderators will let you post, but you have to ask them and they need to know you are not a bot. Don't give up if you don't hear back from me right away. Feel free to contribute to the discussions.

ANY of my clients whom might not have gotten calls from an employer should contact me. I can't guarantee a job for every client, but I can certainly increase the chance to get your resume read. If you are not getting any calls, you should let me know and we can see if there is anything that we can do to change that. If you are absolutely low-time, you will still have to put in a lot of work; the process might even include a major road trip, but don't suffer in silence!

If your resume was an early, free or low-cost one, I have refined my resumes further from what you may have received. If you are changing jobs again and want an upgrade I can do those too. For changes to these ones I may ask you for a fee but I won't surprise you. Let's talk first and I'll let you know if I can help.

Hey xsbank, are you still available to help with resume and cover letter? I am an aviation professional but not a pilot.

Yes, but you can't receive PMs until you've been here for a couple of posts. Management wants to make sure you are human and not a bot. So, soon, soon.

There is a difference this time as I have retired from My Last Great Flying Job. Now I will need to charge a fee.

I have a good service to offer. I can help you and I am an aviation expert; most resume services have no clue about aviation or charge too much. I can help you make the best of what you have to offer and I might have some career advice.

My qualifications are one BBA, two ATPs, floats, bush, airlines, firebombing, survey, corporate, training jet type ratings, quality assurance and auditing. I have also graded resumes for an employment agency when the firebombing season was over.

If you are interested, please PM me.

Last time, I did covers and resumes for 156 Avcanadians.

Summer is nearly here on the Wet Coast. I have all sorts of plans that don't include typing! The only screen I plan to stare at is my old Standard Horizon plotter on the Royal Barge. Have a safe summer, take plenty of photos (the few that I took, pre-digital, are all in my logbook) and I'll see you lot in the Fall.

Seriously, stay safe. The goal is to survive aviation!

Snowbirds,
1. You can't communicate with me yet as you need to post a couple of times before the site administrators approve you for PMs.
2. The post right above yours says I am taking a break and I am not going to do any resumes until the Fall. I'm just finishing off some others that I had committed to do.
3. I will announce here when I am offering the service again if anything changes.

Safe flying - your employment contract doesn't include your life!

I am presently in Desolation Sound bobbing at anchor in a very quiet (non-party) cove. I will be back in "civilization" in September sometime and if anyone needs my services then I'll post. Sorry but I can't help it...8^)

Some of you have been asking for resume help and I am trying to decide if I am still doing that...sounds strange but they do take up a lot of my time and the fees I've been charging are probably not even paying for the new computer and software I had to buy to modernize.

99% of you, my clients, have been good about paying the fee, only one stiffed me and I'm trying to decide if I should "out" him on here because he won't reply to me. I'm not starving as a result but I definitely think he's probably the sort who would break an employer bond! One out of a multitude is pretty good odds and I'm certainly not bitter!

The rest of my clients have been good but too few of you bother to let me know how you are making out but some tell me regularly how they are progressing in their careers and I get a vicarious thrill out of your successes.

While I'm trying to decide, here are a few old-fashioned tips for your career: practise your handshake! A limp, wet hand is a sign that you don't give a... Also, look them in the eye when you shake. Amazing how important this is! Practice it on your wife or girlfriend or your bartender.

Groom yourself! Wash, cut your hair, polish your shoes, don't wear the shirt with the spaghetti stains. If you've got facial hair, make sure it's neatly trimmed. Stand up straight - you are a Captain, right? Be very polite to the receptionist, her opinion counts and might get you hired. In fact, remember her name and send her a thank you note. If she's really nice, send her a gift. It really helps.

If you're going for a bush job, clean chinos, practical jacket (leather is not practical) a good pair of work gloves and worn but not baked work boots. Lots of good uniform type shirts good for loading (I don't think a white shirt with epaulettes is probably appropriate). Something to keep you warm.

Practise your approach in front of a camera or a critical friend. It took me a week of practicing in front of a video camera before I thought I was good enough to teach a course, which I had to do in an interview. Winston Churchill said "...it takes hours of practise to be spontaneous..."

Don't neglect this part of your career. Basic skills are not taught in school and so someone has to tell you or you have to learn by observation.

I'll let you know.

Based on some of the resumes I see, I suggest everyone take XSBank up on his offer.

Nothing worse than a terrible resume which will get it binned right off the bat.
