Perimiter Ramp Wait Time

Post by bearitus »

I am a newly licensed pilot 200 TT CPL/MIFR. I have an interview with Perimiter in Winnipeg in a few weeks. Just wondering what the current ramp wait time is looking like.

Thanks !

Friend of mine went there Sept of 2013. By August 2014 he was right seat on the Metro. He said it fluctuates a bit but more or less a year.

Like most ramp jobs, ramp wait time is 1 year - give or take a year. Some go quicker some go slower, some times things bog down and even the most talented pilot has +2 years to wait.

Thanks for the replies! I am just wondering if I would need 250 TT and the IATRA in order to eventually be considered for a flying spot?

Yes, you need 250hrs to write the IATRA and you need the iatra to fly right seat in a multi crew aircraft

Good luck!

The Metro II and Metro III are certified single pilot aircraft, therefore no IATRA required for right seat at Perimeter

Generally around a year. I know some guys who did it and less and some who are still waiting (after several years). You get what you put into it.

The only time a PILOT should be waiting on the ramp
is in the event that another aircraft is TAXIING IN.

I'd like to see pilots in the cockpit while boarding, but hey, your SOP may vary.

I completely agree with you guys that pilots should be flying. It just seems that there aren't many options for a new pilot like myself to land a direct entry flying job except for spending upwards of 10K of my hard earned money on an instructor rating with no guarantee of an instructing job afterwards.

I said the exact same thing a good 15+ years ago, but then I got some solid advice from a few folks with some age on me. I dug a little deeper, turned over a few stones, knocked on a few doors and voila, no ramp. It should come as no surprise; odds are, your first job won't be advertised or handed to you from this website.

To be fair at least at perimeter the ramp pay is pretty decent and the same as the non pilots working it beside you.

So, if the Metros are single pilot and you don't even need the IATRA, how long do you have to sit there before you can log something? You can't expect an operator to give you any credit for riding in the right seat? Swamping? Maybe you could keep track of the time as a flight attendant?

What am I missing here?

Edited to add: do you even get paid to do that or are you doing it for fun?

If they choose to operate it multicrew (with SOPs and all), then you can log it as copilot , no ?

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

It's the reason we don't hire newbie pilots for non-flying jobs anymore. We also don't hire them for flying jobs. We hire experienced pilots to fly and less whiny, harder working, more qualified people who are not pilots, on the ramp. Having fewer pilots around is always better. You won't find a more useless bunch of mama's boy, in any other industry.
