Swoop pay

Post by handyandy »

Looks like first year captain pay is about 55% of westjet mainline. Assuming there is no ESP, Profit Share or Options.

x75 credit hours a month works to about $92,000/year for an NG Captain.

Thanks to the 737 charter airlines here in Canada who most recently lowered the bar on 737 Captain wages because Swoop is running with it.

What a disgrace!

Folks don’t sell yourself short to get into a 737. That pay rate is almost half of Air Canada’s, and a fraction of what our US partners make to do the same job with most probably way better working standards. THERE IS A PILOT SHORTAGE! No need to race to the bottom!!

Sunwing has a minimum guarantee of 1000 credits a year if I read the contract correctly. Is Swoop just going to mirror Sunwing’s contract? Still a lot of unknowns.
If history is any guide, that hourly rate will be the high point of the contract. Look at Encore, I don't even think that there was OT pay until you hit a certain number of hours. There won't be a contract and few work rules. No options, ESP, etc. But there will be cheap travel on WJ!

Encore pilots were promised career progression and all they get is a bigger airplane at a fraction of the going rate. Shiny airplanes don't put food on the table.

So if the pay scale is matching Sunwings, and everyone thinks that is not acceptable, then what is acceptable?

I guess the notion of scope is lost on you. Look it up! There is a reason it is article 1 in almost every CBA negotiated for major airline folk.

So the pay is acceptable. Glad we sorted that out.

Now tell me about their scope.

That’s ok. I have a feeling it would be a waste of time.

That is horrible wage. I am 737 FO from Czech Republic, time to time flying here in cooperation between my company and Sunwing, so I am curious about wage scale here in Canada. To be honest I was looking for to stay in Canada but compair living cost here against Czech with those wages is kind of immposible. This CPT wage shown above is redicilous. That money Have FO in Europe for 65 hours flying. 3x lower cost for life there. Thats why we have already 6 cpt from Swoop or the other canadian airline in the Europe. I wish and hope for pilots wages increase here in Canada too.

That's nuts. I'm down south making 30 percent more money in the right seat. And I'm only flying 20-40 hours per month.

why is he trolling? don't blame him he's on contract with TUI/Sunwing and gets a temp base here. The Sunwings guys do the same in the summer. He is just making an observation regarding wages VS cost of living. I don't blame him, its atrocious.
