500 Multi only...to be a 1900 Captain
* Canadian Airline Transport Pilot's Licence with Group 1 Instrument Rating
* Canadian Category 1 Medical Certificate
* Experience on type or similar is preferred
* 500 hours multi-engine airplane
I never thought I would see the day but it's kind of nice to see that eventually, pay is going to have to go up to keep airplanes flying.

That is interesting.
If the airlines keep hiring 500 hour pilots and they operate the machines safely that then means that wages will probably not improve?

I was a King Air Captain with 500 multi and that was when no one was hiring. Not to mention operating without the support of dispatchers, full time maintenance, etc.
There is absolutely nothing about flying a 1900 that a good pilot cannot learn in 500 hours.

That is exactly what I was alluding to.

I’m sure some sky gods feel insulted that pilots can fly the ‘mighty’ 1900 with a ‘mere’ 500 hours of multi engine time.
I, too, captained a King Air with only just over 500 multi hours. A 1900 is just an overgrown version of the same aircraft.

Lol, I thought this was going to go the other way till I read the next line, IMO that's asking for quite a bit of experience to fly that thing, personally I just never found multi flying to be that challenging, I think something more fluidic like float plane flying for backcountry requires more experience to be good, multi, not so much.
On that note in the US most airlines are more concerned with total time than multi, heck regionals will take someone with a ATP and 5hrs multi to be a CRJ FO, promoting to Capt in a year or two.

Am I missing something?
500 hours multi and an ATPL, should be at minimum 1500TT, if I was still a CP, I wouldn’t want any less than that but it’s not like they’re looking for a greenhorn to fly it

"Stand-by, I'm inverted"

And only 1200 TT to be King Air captain:

No multi required. Interesting times for sure

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: 500 Multi only...to be a 1900 Captain
Probably has less to do with "sky gods" and more to do with companies lowering their insurance requirements.

Some actual multi time means you've done gone through 3 or 4 training experiences. Initial multi rating, M-IFR rating and one or two PPCs. This means you are less likely to fail your 1900 sim because you've been through it a couple times.
