Transport Canada
Please apply for a job that may or may not exist and if it does exist it would exist here and move there maybe but you can work at all these other places maybe. Also, we're really important and aren't really interested in you so put a application in and well get to you when we feel like it.

Re: Transport Canada
I first applied at TC when I was 19 as they claimed they were Nationwide short of Inspectors. I applied almost every year after that. I am now 60 and looking forward to the call from them.
Re: Transport Canada
Funny,
I know a bunch of people who got on at TC very quickly after applying. Most were even given a choice between 2 or 3 positions. Some even lack a degree and aren’t bilingual.
Any other organizations that you’d like to complain about?

T1900
It occurs to me that if you know a bunch of people who got on quicky at TC, and their qualifications, you are probably part of TC.
It certainly would explain why your perspective is different to all the others.
Correct me I am wrong.

Re: Transport Canada
Hilarious. Would expect nothing else from the Canadian government.
Re: Transport Canada
You are wrong. Never so much as set foot inside a TC facility. We were all in the RCAF; some elected to remain in government jobs, others not so much.
My perspective does seem to run contrary to most, but when I’ve failed to attain a desired position I’ve always taken a hard look in the mirror before slagging an entire organization.
Re: Transport Canada
Thanks for the clarification.
My perspective, which has nothing to do with TC, is that I do not have to take a hard look in the mirror to know I don’t want to be part of a drug ring, a motor cycle gang. Or the liberal caucus.
I do see however that TC would approve attractive to some ex military. Two indexed pensions are great. Unfortunately the leadership in the two organizations are,in my opinion, radically different. But I have never worked for TC either.
Which does bring us back to the OP and the validity of their comments.

Re: Transport Canada
Unless things have changed, you don't "apply" to Transport Canada. You compete. The most qualified gets the position.
At times, TC will establish a merit list from that competition and if other similar positions come available, individuals on that list may be asked if they are still interested.
In my competition, I came second, but a few months later, was contacted with a job offer.
The job I was offered was in what was then termed "Airways"; having been an instrument check pilot in the RCAF, my qualifications were a fit.
A subsequent competition a year later saw me move to"Instrument Standards"; again my background as an ICP in the RCAF was a fit.
PS About the oblique remark concerning "two indexed pensions": something wrong with that?
If you spend forty years working for either the military or forty years working for another government agency, that's right and proper?
But if you work twenty years working for the military and then move to a government position for another twenty years, that's somehow underhanded?
I fail to see the logic in that...

Re: Transport Canada
I did not mean to disparage two pensions. I thought it was a great incentive. But, to be clear, there is a difference between working 40 years and two 20 year pensions.
Actually a very significant difference.

Re: Transport Canada
Competition? Most qualified gets the job? That is extremely naive. That’s not how the government hires people in Canada. Race, sex and disability takes precedence. Also helps to know someone on the inside.

That description would fit how most companies hire people.......JohnnyHotRocks wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 6:51 am Competition? Most qualified gets the job? That is extremely naive. Re: Transport Canada
For those who are interested...
I applied in the past for a position in standards. I did not even make it through the screening process as I did not include the group 1 instrument rating wording as I was in possession of an ATPL (didn't copy their requirements and ensure I listed everything).
So if you want to make it into the pool...ensure that you basically copy their essential qualifications into each section that requires it and tailor it to your scenario and be long winded about how you obtained everything as it is an HR person assessing you, not someone with any aviation background.
It is a government process so don't use common sense or logic. Those who can bullshit the best win.

"Competition? Most qualified gets the job? That is extremely naive."
JHR: Naïve? I doubt it.
I was involved in two competitions for someone to work in my section. In both cases, the best qualified person won.
Now, that is not to say that if you really want a particular person that you can't tailor the requirements to suit the individual: i.e. must be between 34 and 36, have gray hair, have a degree in basket weaving, and speak Esperanto.
However, you have to be extremely careful when doing that for obvious reasons...
Transport Canada is a far different place than when I worked in the Atlantic Region in the mid- to late eighties. I would hazard a guess that if you're a pilot and you're applying to TC in this time frame, you really don't want to fly anymore...

Re: Transport Canada
With that attitude why would you even apply for a government job? After all, you would be the person generating the illogical "bullshit".Axial Flow wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 10:12 am It is a government process so don't use common sense or logic. Those who can bullshit the best win.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Transport Canada
Poor reading comprehension, inability to follow directions, and lack of attention to detail are bullshit? I can't begin to imagine why you were passed over.Axial Flow wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 10:12 am For those who are interested...

This thread rapidly filled up with big heads. Get over yourselves.
Seriously, none of you would be so rude to each other in person.
I dunno, reading this thread just left a bad taste in my mouth.
