Still operators looking for float drivers!!!

Post by 185_guy »

Wow, I cant believe the amount of operators STILL looking for float drivers this late in the spring!!
Is there that much of a shortage of people to fill these positions? If so, im in a bit of awe.
Are you low time guys starting out (7-50-100hrs of float time) finding flying jobs? Or is there still the same ole carrot being dangled? I doubt the insurance companies have gave any slack, but if this continues, maybe they will...........which will be good for everyone!

Good luck to the operators to fill these spots before it gets busy!!
( i kinda wish i dident leave float flying this season!)

I know several other low-time pilots with 25-50 float hours that have gotten float jobs this summer. As for me, almost every float operator I have called has no positions available for low-time pilots.

Out of curiousity, how late into the spring/summer will float operators typically hire, or does it all depend on when the ice goes out and how many experienced float drivers are available that year?

When I was looking for a small float job/dock job with 24hrs, I wasn't having any luck. I was being told that it was the insurance companies that were running the game, and that the operators wished they could hire me...go figure.
A few of us out of school landed float/dock jobs, but not I. Went on with a bigger company as a ramp hand.
