Seaplanes in Scotland can't keep a pilot??

Post by floatman »

Rumour has it another pilot has left the operation unhappy and disillusioned, apparently due to the owner who seems to clash with everyone who works for him. This makes at least 4 pilots in the last couple of years with the same scenario. Great place, decent pay but lousey working environment. Any insiders care to comment? Is it management or some other reason guys keep leaving?

What's so bad about working for them? I'll admit its hard to find any first hand info but their website, web articles, and youtube videos all look pretty crisp! Hard to imagine them being worse then some of the camp operators up here! I bet their pilots don't dig shitters!!!

Seriously though, more info would be nice!

The patience and restraint required to work with said individual is more than I will possess in many lifetimes.

I heard pilot number 8 has left the company, and like the other 7 before him, not on speaking terms with the said individual- common factor?!?

Any takers on how long pilots 9 and 10 will last?

I hear yet another has parted company on the same terms as those before him! At least there's consistency and its happening in quicker succession each time.

What will become of this operation, where are those Twin Otters and what happened to the grand IFR float op plans?!?

Maybe its time for the Fatman to sing...

HA! Now it all makes sense. I sent the company a rez back in 2008, and 2 years later they replied back with this:

Hi,

Thank you for your previous interest in working for Loch Lomond Seaplanes. We are currently updating our employment application database for our 2010 season and we welcome updated resumes from applicants who have a minimum of 1000 hours of seaplane time including single engine turbine seaplane time. Please only re-apply should you meet these minimum requirements.

Best regards and season's greetings

EDITED
Operations Manager

- Don't get me wrong; its certainly nice to hear back from a company when applying to it, but, going back through applicants in the past two years seems a bit desperate. Finally, the shoe is on the other foot.

There is a whole lot of inuendo going on about this company but no one has come straight out with specifics.

What exactly is going on that's so bad? Bad Maintenance? Being asked to fly in shit weather? Not getting paid? Promising planes or perks that never come about?

Feel free to PM if you'd rather not say on the open forum.

"apparently due to the owner who seems to clash with everyone who works for him" - Not innuendo

"The patience and restraint required to work with said individual is more than I will possess in many lifetimes" - Fairly straightforward

"8 has left the company, and like the other 7 before him not on speaking terms with the said individual" - Speaks for itself

"yet another (9) has parted company on the same terms as those before him" - I see a pattern building...

"What exactly is going on that's so bad? Bad Maintenance? Being asked to fly in shit weather? Not getting paid? Promising planes or perks that never come about?
" - You might be onto something there....

Cloudrunner.

I am not sure those are really specifics. I would be interested in hearing os specific instances with regard to problems, pay, perks, etc.

And like the others, PM if you would prefer. I will keep all correspondence confidential.

I understand how hard it is to convince some people of the problems with a company(I have tried in the past), and I am not interested in a job here. Just keeping a file on bad companies, for a book in the future

polar one,

I am quite sure you won't find anyone here who is going to lay out a laundry list for you. Some still have open wounds, believe me.

Suffice it to say that the bully in question has a habit of threatening litigation and attempting to intimidate people, most of whom consider him a joke.

Good luck with the book,

PS If it is facts you are after, I would try the discreet approach.
