Yes and no. In Canada a type rating is not needed BUT, you can have one added to your license.
Complete the form and requirements, pay the fee, and you can have the rating put on your license.
I have not done this for a few years, but typically a valid ppc and proof of currency are what used to be required for a rating to be added.
Many overseas jurisdictions require this for a license validation or conversion. It is not an uncommon thing to have added in Canada

This is the case when applying to many foreign operators, who view PPC cards with deep suspicion.
