Northway Caravan
Anyone work there that can offer some current info? The fleet looks very nice and it doesn't seem to be a revolving door like Wasaya is. Just wondering what management and morale is like and if the 55k starting pay I heard is accurate.

Re: Northway Caravan
Hey Duff...I haven't heard anything bad about them. That in itself is good. 55K sounds in line. If you don't fly a Van now, you'll really like it. Good luck.

Re: Northway Caravan
I worked a quick winter contract with them last winter.
Overall probably one of the best operators in that neck of the woods. Pay is decent, schedule is good, lots of flying, machines are all AMAZINGLY well equipped. Bring a parka... winters are similar to living on Pluto (and I grew up in the arctic).

Equipment is top notch, good people and schedule and facilities in St Andrews are amazing. As far as I know starting is 52k with no float time and expect a 5k bond.
No I do not work there.
No I do not work there.
Re: Northway Caravan
Thanks guys. All of my time is float time and I have a group 3 IFR with the ink still wet, 1600TT. Not sure if jumping into a single pilot IFR job is a great idea given I have literally no IFR experience, but i'm getting a little tired of seasonal work and collecting EI every winter.

Re: Northway Caravan
Didn't see any reference to "float" time??? It it's an SPIFR operation, why would no float time matter? Am I missing something?

Re: Northway Caravan
Pay rate is higher on the float planes, also their float planes are operated SPIFR.
Re: Northway Caravan
Yeah I believe they have two amphibs and two on wheels

Re: Northway Caravan
Their ad calls for northern strip gravel experience. No mention of tubs. The amphib op is prolly VFR?

Depends who is driving, but they are all IFR capable as are the pilots.Illya Kuryakin wrote:The amphib op is prolly VFR?

Re: Northway Caravan
You will be fine. Not sure if amazingly equipped means 530/430 or g1000 c208ex but single pilot IfR is not as terrifying as people make it out to be. 55k isn't great but decent for a 208 pilot. It's about as good as Westjet encore q400 captain so I suppose you can't complain.Duffman wrote:Thanks guys. All of my time is float time and I have a group 3 IFR with the ink still wet, 1600TT. Re: Northway Caravan
I worked at Northway for a year after flying strictly day VFR floats in the bush for 5 years. The training is great there and it didn't seem like a stretch to fly spifr. They also will not push you into something you are not ready for. It's not an operation that wants you to kill yourself. They respect that the caravan is not capable of flying in terrible icing conditions, therefore on bad days, sked is cancelled. The pilots who work there are great as well. Best of luck to those who apply.
