Basically is YHZ out of the question for new hires?
Do you get to rate you choices when hired? Or is it completely on an operational need basis.
However, a few months back they hired right into YHZ, so it's on an as-needed basis (this is after the positions go out to bid amongst the current pilot group.) There have been many very recent instances of pilots being able to bid into their preferred base during initial training (YHZ and YOW.)
Note that they won't put you at an out-station (i.e. non-YTZ) unless you want to be there.
That's really hard to say. The newest two FOs at the YOW base were awarded the base while they were still in sim or line indoc this past fall. There has been no movement at the YOW base since, and I have no idea if any of the later new hires want YOW. However with all the Air Canada hiring lately, there will likely be more movement coming up.
If I had to put an "average" on past waits, it's probably about 6-12 months... but it's a whole new world...
