Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
CEWS Will be terminated on July 4th due to a requirement for ‘additional legislation’. Would this be due to Sky potentially ramping up their operations this summer and not meeting the revenue reduction criteria?
Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
For many AC and Express employees, CEWS will be a bridge to a layoff not a bridge to return to active status.
Perhaps this is the issue or perhaps it is the large employer layoff provisions of the Federal Labour Code that are in conflict with the CEWS legislation.

Or perhaps AC tries to put pressure on Ottawa to extend or add funds for aviation workers...
Or they just aren't sure yet how the legislation will affect them tomorrow.
Or they try to cut costs even more with layoffs instead of paying DAS and stuff
Who knows at this point... Let's see what the summer schedule will look like and how many guys they need... I have hope for the end of the summer with most guys back as the border re-opens

And I hope that many Express pilots have personal contingency plans if that does not happen.the-minister31 wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 1:46 pm Who knows at this point... Recovery is beyond the control of the Express pilots and the commercial plan is developed in YUL by AC.
Full financial impact has not necessarily been felt yet. It will when lay-off notices take effect.

Heard from a friend first 60 Sky pilots being recalled June 1.

Actually 28 being brought back for June 1, bringing the total to 90 active. 47 Captains and 43 FOs, 65 hour min guarantee.

Jazz has 50% of line pilots inactive. Putting 3 factory CRJ900’s in to service over next 30 days.
Express schedule seems to be a work in progress with lots of cancelations and substitutions.
Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
and jazz extended it until the 30th of june. which is before SKY. does it mean jazz is out of business if I follow your logic? Sky is a key player in the express network..like it or not.dash8driver wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 10:10 pm CEWS Will be terminated on July 4th due to a requirement for ‘additional legislation’. Up until the 175's are gone or mainline to CPA carrier ratios are no longer respected. If mainline is smaller, express is smaller or flying must be repatriated to mainline. Like it or not, sky will be the first on the chopping block.flybyyou wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 8:16 pmand jazz extended it until the 30th of june. which is before SKY. does it mean jazz is out of business if I follow your logic? I understand we want to put our interest first but unfortunately it doesn't work like that. first if we follow your (poor) way of thinking; why did AC retire the e190 and not the e175 then? the 175's are AC owned. give all the express flying to the 190 and keep more jobs at AC. close your eyes and keep dreaming if you think Calin will send an empty a320 many times a day to saint john sydney, and all the express destinations while he can do it at half the cost and full capacity.FL-280 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 11:59 amUp until the 175's are gone or mainline to CPA carrier ratios are no longer respected. But if there is excess capacity, it is cheapest to remove owned older airframes first.
Express is not an island. It will shrink.

Article 1.10 of the ACPA cba girls.... thats the reality. If mainline shrinks, express shrinks... at the end of the day regional flying is ACPA flying with a let if certain fleet targets are met.
Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
The decision to exit the 190’s was made well before COVID.
There is so much more to the equation. Particularly given COVID era contingency planning, scope, and what AC believe it’s network will need to look like 2023 and beyond.
All of these decisions are made in YUL not YYZ or YHZ.
Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
Yup. But it isn’t linear. Express growth never kept up with mainline growth. There is a buffer that can be exhausted prior to any of the ratios requiring Express capacity contraction.
Most of the decisions that AC has to make about Express will have less to do with scope and more to do with demand in the markets that Express served pre-COVID and how AC chooses to deploy the A220’s.
Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
It isn’t linear and is quite the read... the 220 is really the aircraft of the future for AC. We will see how it plays out but a certain balance will be kept.

Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
Roughly 90 additional pilots to be recalled for July. Min hour guarantee back to 75
Re: Termination of CEWS on July 4th?
So 180 out of 280 back on payroll? Or 150?straight2thepoint wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 11:59 am Roughly 90 additional pilots to be recalled for July. Min hour guarantee back to 75

Up to 180, subject to change of course but that's the plan.
