CLGuy, your buddy took some amazing shots there!

Boreas, Fantastic shot as well! Just something about a Caravan in the middle of nowhere on a dirt strip! Post more!

I don't know S*#t from Shinola when it comes to telling Piper Twins apart but Bob posted the picture so I'm going with his identification! The prop in the background appears to have been "trimmed". It may be just the angle the picture was taken at but, given the subject of the picture, it may not be! Is there a "rest of the story" Bob? Surely the statute of limitations has passed by now!

"Blackey", No problem, I just landed on the Clearwater strip (Williston Lake) and the front gear collapsed due to a small bracket breaking off allowing the nose gear to release. The main gear remained locked. It was 1979 and come to think of it, it was a Seneca I. Good eye "Aeroyt". Both tips on both props took off in various directions, never to be seen again.

Come to think about it and after verifying with my vnc, it is Clearwater Creek. I don't remember seeing an airstrip off the west side of the inlet nor do I remember bothering to look for the fact that I didn't even know there was one there.

Flying back to PG via the pine pass and Chetwynd looked horrible but west down the valley looked okay. So I tried to meander myself through the storm. Finally I entered IMC and decided enough is enough and did a 180 out of there. With limited fuel remaining I had a few options; either back to yxj, slalom my was through the Rockies, or fly the lake via peace arm.

I'm glad I flew the lake because I couldn't have asked for a better flight. It was sunny, calm (with the exception of a few moderate up and down draughts) and the scenery was beautiful. Not only that but I just made it to Mackenzie without feeding into my reserve.

Here are a couple more pictures of that flight

I like the landscape frame, and colors in the Caravan shot. It looks almost remote. Nice snap!!

CLguy; that last pic of the 415 is one of the best I've seen. Kudo's to your friend on the shot!! Publish it!

Just found this yesterday going through a pile of archived shots that I never processed. Thought I'd pass it along.

Cndn Forces Griffon during a dustball landing, some shell casings flying by.

The least favourite part of my job. Hand bombing 2400 lbs of moose and caribou chopped into pieces small enough to go in pack boxes on horses.

JAC,

What are the cylinders on the inside of the Otter floats? Strange place for rod-holders!

It was the easy way to give the floats enough float for the turbine conversion instead of totally rebuilding the floats or extending them.

Actually I believe the mods on the sides of the floats are part of an upgross kit, I've seen a few turbootters without the upgross float kit.
