The Essentials

Post by petite »

I'm talking about the toolbox. Everyone has different opinions on this and it depends on what type of work is performed. What do you think should be in the box for working in the bush? do avionics work? building your own plane? in an AMO? in a sheet metal shop?

Thanks guys and ladies, petite

A pretty vague question in which you kind of answered it yourself. There are so many variables on what you need depending on your situation and types of airplanes. If you could narrow it down a bit it would be simpler..

For basics though, you need a good screwdriver (multi-tip) probably a Snap-on Ratcheting, good 1/4 drive set (12 point), Wrenches 1/4-1" (get the proffessional series at crappy tire when they are on sale), pliers of various shapes and sizes, duckbills and/or wire twisters, allen wrenches, cheap digital multi-meter. That will get you started, then keep a list of what you borrow from others, put a tick beside each item as you borrow them, on payday, buy the item with the most ticks. That way you get what you really need most.

Let me know if you have any more questions..

Cheers and good luck.

Sorry, I was vague. Let's go with building your own plane. Buddy gets a kit and has it in a barn and starts building. What's in the shop?

You rock rigpiggy! Thanks for your answer. Thanks to twotter as well. This has started to give me ideas. On the plus side, today my cousin that used to be in maintenance gave some of his tools. It's a start.
istp- you can supervise my progress with your feet up on the case of beer.
