First inspection date for a new ELT

CAR 625 Appendix C specifies 12 month intervals for an ELT inspection.

When is the first inspection due for a new ELT - is it 12 months after manufacture, or 12 months after install?

For propellers, 625/G says explicitly, but it doesn’t say either way for ELTs.

ELT requires inspections at manufacturers intervals, say a 30 day test, that would be at initial install and then every 30 days.

ELT recertifications and battery replacements are carried out from the last recert or replacement.

To keep you flying while the elt is out for recert, you're allowed to have it out for 30 days.

Date of last certification. If there isn't a sticker on the ELT that says when it was last certified, it's not, and it needs to be done.

It was last certified as new per the date on the Authorized Release Certificate provided by the manufacturer. That's all you need to install it. Question is, when is the first performance test IAW 571 Appendix G due?

Batteries are life limited, so if the ELT had been sitting 5 years on the shelf, it would at least be due for batteries AND a test after batteries are installed! There you go, I didn't answer the question either !

A NEW ELT does not have a recert or replacement history because it has never been re-cert or anything re-placed !

As said above by another poster, your "NEW" ELT will come with some form of certification. It's that Certificate that you will start by. So yes, if your ELT has sat on a shelf for years you need to send it out.

Still doesn't answer the question, If your ELT has been on the shelf for 366 days, will it need the annual test if not ever installed and the battery is not due ?
( My opinion is Yes, it will need a test before installation and flight )

Yes, the parts tag will tell you when it was certified new, it is one year from that date.
