AME E license question

Post by vinzer »

Hello everyone!
I am thinking about some carreir change and looking in to AME E license course at BCIT.
My background is an aviation engineer (avionics) more than 22 years back when I graduated from military school in Eastern Europe. I never had a chance to work as a specialist in this field. My work experience for past 20 years is in electronics field as embedded developer, hardware design engineer and some other related positions.
Assume I completed my studies at BCIT, found some place to get my apprentice practice done and finally got my AME E ticket.

Here is my question: being AME E licensed specialist in Canada am I allowed, while running my own little shop, to work on avionics installations, calibration, certification and repairs (whatever is in the scope of my license)? I know that while being AME M licensed you can do and sign off some tasks including annuals for private airplanes however to do that for commercial you have to be a part of AMO. What about AME E license and it’s privelegies? Do I require to be a part of AMO or avionics license allows to do sign off for avionics and all related to it tasks independently ? I need some clarification on that please.
Thank you!
