Need new battery in the Cessna 180

Post by tazin river »

The old one is 6 years old and getting tired (concorde AXC 35) but has been very reliable. Wondering if there is something else out there just as good but lighter and perhaps a bit less expensive? :-)

Thanks

Don't try to save money on a battery for a floatplane, you really don't want to find yourself having to hand prop it in the bush! I buy Concorde sealed batteries, and have been very satisfied with their longevity.

The Concorde batteries are pricey but you get what you pay for.

I put a new 35AXC in my Musketeer a couple of years ago and tried not to scream too hard at the price...

2 x Odyssey Batteries, PC680's. Fit them under a LSTC and you're set. You'll get the same life for a lot better price.

Odyssey batteries are super. Several non certified airplanes I have flown have them in, and they work well. However, I cannot sSTC (new LSTC) them into a certified plane, as they are not TSO'd, and TC requires that standard for them to be acceptable to sSTC - I asked. And, if I were able to sSTC them, the approval would cost a couple of times the cost of a new Concorde battery, so your best option is just to use the high quality approved battery.
