Whitworth Tools For Sale?

Post by HS-748 2A »

Any old R.R. Dart veterans out there with Whitworth tools for sale?

Specifically, what I'm looking for:

2BA sockets -1/4 drive
1/4BS socket - 1/4 drive
5/16BS sockets -1/4 drive
2BA combination wrench

PM me if you have any of these things and would part with them.

Its easiest for me if you're in YYC, YVR or somewhere in First Air's system.

I can pay cheque or cash but we'll sort the details later. Put the word out if you know anybody.

Thanks,

Just bumping this to the top of the pile again.. C'mon, I know how much you all hate that English junk - you're never gonna use any of it again now that you have real jobs on nice new airplanes; now hook a brother up, will ya..

Sorry I do not have any to offer, but I was on Ebay today and saw several pieces listed. Hope that helps.

Cheers.

I'd try making a contact in the T/C Aircraft Services hangar in Ottawa as it had/has a lot of ex First Air boys with Hawker time. Im sure some have BSW tools.

Mine get used a bit but I'd try some of the old British car and motorcycle suppliers. ie. Wise Owl, and Octagon Motors in Vancouver or Motoparts in Edmonton. Think old Series Land Rovers, E type Jaguars, Nortons, BSA's, Triumphs etc. It may not be Snap On, (Snap On and Mac are out of the Whitworth market now I believe) but who can resist tools labelled King Dick. Brit Tool and the KD's are a decent quality, and should the need arise to modify something for one of those special reach places, it won't hurt nearly as much as modifying a Snap On. There's always Flea Bay too...
Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody - I've done the 'modding' of wrenches before; even bastardized an old Snap On 1/2" offset into a 5/16 BS. Makes for a nice tool but shame to do that to Snap On wrench. Sacrilege..

Anyhow, I've had a pretty good response so far and thank everyone for the advice.

All I'm still looking for is a 2BA combination wrench.
A 2BA 1/4 drive socket would be nice too but I have tracked down a 3/16BS socket which is only about .018 or so bigger, so it will certainly work.

You can PM me if you have either of those things..

Regards,

I may have a bag of tab washers around somewhere  Out of curiosity, who in the world is still doing Dart overhauls? It was getting to be an issue 25 years ago when I worked on them, they were being sent as far as New Zealand back then..
