the TC exams draw the questions from the same pool as the FAA for the most part. studied the FAA questions and the TC exams had very few surprises for me. there are FAA question books out there. there is a book with a zillion questions, all that you'll see on tc exams.

go to this site:
http://www.faa.gov/education_research/t ... questions/
click on the links under 'aviation mechanic' and you will see hundreds of questions. i swear this is where transport pulls there questions from word for word. the only bad part is the site doesn't provide the answer key.
they do provide a refernece to the jeppesen books to look up the ansers though. you have to dig them up.
but there are books with these questions you should be able to find on the web or in a store like aviation world that has these questions with the answer key.
if you do these questions you will pass the exams no sweat.

i think these are the books. i had older ones, different covers. i am sure these are the books. the dale crane ones, like g_parsnips posted. they are not the ones you get in college.

http://www.pilotmall.com/store/merchant ... ore_code=1

get these books and the exams are a breeze.
and one bonus tip... study helicopters a LOT. there is like 16 questions out of 50 on the exam(airframe i think) on whirly birds. read the airframe book helicopters over and over.

Transport Exams

Post by Lyle Lanley »

Has anyone taken the tech exams recently? What is actually on the exams? I'm mostly concerned with the Airframe exam, I know there are a lot of helicopter questions, but what else to expect? There is no way the whole study guide is on the test, but what is on it?
Any help is greatly appriciated. Thanks alot

Thanks for the link.
Are there really questions about wood structure? and dope and fabric?
I've also heard that there aren't questions on some topics and a shitload on others. As there is no emphasis on any topic in the study guide, I am finding that is the problem with deciding what to study. Will there be 10 questions on wood, 5 on metal, 20 on helicopters, 0 on electrical, or what?
Thanks for the help

The new tech exams are no joke. Study hard and get your hands on as many "practices" exams as you can. The questions range from fabric on an old cub to brakes on a 747. Be prepared or I assure you will be in for shocker.

Thanks for the help. Does anyone know where to find some "practice" exams? In addition to the FAA ones, maybe some TC ones?

Get the Jepesson Test Guide books. Watch out because Jepessen makes study guides and workbooks as well. The workbooks and Study guides are useless. The TEST GUIDE BOOKS are pure gold. Airframe is the best

Hey lyle, what did you use for the engines exam? Failed it myself. Did you use old exams or did you use the jeppeson study guide that has questions and answers?

Hey, thanks for the info. I tried the online test there and I managed to pass it. I guess I'll keep studying the text and study guide and hopefully I'll get it right for real.
Thanks again! :?

After 10 years out of the field, I'm preparing to write the tech exams also!
Borrowed the textbooks from a guy who just finished school.

Thanks for the thread, some helpful tips!
There can't be many more of us left (those required to write the technical exams).

Handy to have M1 with CPL Multi/IFR!

Transport Canada Technical Exams

Post by tech exam »

Hey Guys/Girls,

I am writing my technical exams with Transport Canada(Powerplant,Airframe,General) and looking for some studying advice.

Has anyone recently done any of these?

I found a website called "dauntless aviation" that preps you for the FAA exams. Has anyone tried this site, it cost about $90 and was wondering if is worth it. Are the questions similar to the TC exams?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think my wife looked into that site, but some of their practice exams have wrong answers. Not sure though. This is for flying stuff though, not AME.

My wrong. That was another software. Apparently Dauntless is half decent.
