ICAO Type 2 License

Post by kevin jones »

Good day guys. I have a question on the ICAO type 2 license. There are a number of overseas employers that are asking for this license. The way it is worded is to suggest that this a separate license from the Canadian CAA and the US FAA licenses. Can anyone clear up my confusion please. Thanks.

As I have been led to believe your Canadian AME licence is equivalant to the ICAO type 11

The U.S. A&P is not.
But if you have the I.A. on your A&P then it is equal.

The other countries I'm not sure of.

I am on my second overseas posting and used my Canadian AME licence as the ICAO equivalant and was never questioned about it.

Its the full JAR that is going to be required in the future and apparently the exams are tough.

If you look on the back of your AME licence you should see the following statement. " M1 or M2 privleges include the engines, propellors, components, systems and structures of the applicable aircraft, all turbine helicopters and SFAR 41C aeroplanes. Priveleges conform to ICAO annex 1."

ICAO Type I & Type II refer to minimum acceptable syllabi/syllabuses prescribed for training towards Overhaul Licences (Type I) and Maintenance Licences (Type II).
Canada meets these requirements.

There is always discussion on the FAA A+P and I think it depends on how you qualified for the license initially.

Remember however ICAO produces only guidelines and individual states produce licensing systems such as TC, EASA/ JAR 66 or CASA.

Converting your license between authorities is becoming very difficult as anyone who has tried to gain a JAR license will tell you.

Hello people!
Im new here so forgive me my disorientation. Im an engineering student in my third year now, specialising in airplane engines and Id very much like to work as a maintenance engineer one day.
The thing that confuses me is that most vacancies that sound interesting require either ICAO Type 2 license, B1, B2 or Cat A licenses, or some EASA license.
I tried to find some information but there's not much to be had apparently, or maybe Im looking in all the wrong places?
Id like to know how long it takes to get one of these licenses, what it costs and so on.

Maybe someone has a link or so, I mean I can read alright, it's just that I didnt find anything of use. Thank you very much :)

btw, are there any engine maintenance engineers around willing to give some insights in their professional life? Id love to have first hand information :)

If that is like a B2 license, it's a Avionics license, B1 is for maint but you need a C for release privilages. 13 tests and a company who will sponser your endorsements and you can have a B1 or a C. Its a pain in the butt to get and I'm pretty sure not worth it. Just get hooked up with a good agency who deals with international stuff if you wanna go abroad. Or get your A&P (wtf?) and its almost as good.

Why would you say it's not worth it? Isnt it necessary to have such a license in order to work in maintenance?

A company that sponsors me.. that's what I thought was normal, but all the vacancies already ask for it and not one has mentioned getting it after a succesful application.

Do you have more information about those agencies? Ive never heard of that in the context of engineering before. I only want to work with airplanes.. can it be that hard? :(

A&P and I&A it is not equivalent to ICAO type II. Canadian AME is still Type II, don know for how long . For Canadian employers A&P would be exelent solution, less training (week or two for endoresment) put him/her between five gates and what ever comes to a gate CRS could be sign.(from 175 to B777).
ICAO site provides deffinition and standard for Type II .

I found this on the ICAO site http://www.icao.int/td/coursenbren.pdf , over 100 courses to take and no Type 2 to be found anywhere? Also no information as to where to get the license and how :|

Here is some reading in General from ICAO;

http://www.icao.int/cgi/goto_m_anb.pl?i ... trgFAQ.htm

ICAO does not of itself publish licenses. It is a state recognition of your license from another ICAO contracting state.

Dear Buddy,

I hold EASA66 B1 license, will immigrate to Canada in a few years, can you please tell me how to convert it to AMEL M2? Or it can be used directly in Canada AMO?

Thanks

Hey,

As Flightbb, I've got a EASA/JAR66 Full B1 license, does anyone know off hand what this equates to in the Canadian system? I've been looking on the Transport Canada and JAA sites and they don't give much away :(

Thanks for any information

I'll trade you licenses staight my M2 for your B1  I wish it was that easy. Call transport canada and ask. or go to the website www.tc.gc.ca. Hopefully for you its easier coming this way than going that way. Oh and my opinion on the B1 license for canadians getting it changes with the wind, now I want it again.

If you check the back of your license you will see a reference to ICAO Annex 1 and I believe if you look it up you will find that you have a type II license.
