other schools also huh? quite the change from a average year and half wait to empty seats. interesting
Re: Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Category 'M' BCIT
Are you taking the program there?12 years later at NSCC there's still open seats for M, E and S.
If so why 12 years later?

Yes, please inform him exactly why you saw fit to make that statement, also explain what you had for lunch and how many dumps you take a day.NeverBlue wrote:Are you taking the program there?12 years later at NSCC there's still open seats for M, E and S.

Who are you?
...oh ya...nobody.
ARU on the otherhand is a pretty interesting guy that actually loves aviation.
I'm just wondering why it took him 12 years to finally take the leap into maintenance?

Took the M program last year, only took about 6 months to get in. My $0.02, if you are set on trades in BC, visit Northern Lights College. I quickly realized it wasn't for me and finished the program through correspondence. IMO, if you know how to spin a wrench and speak english, you will be bored at BCIT with too much study time. Some written exams are a joke with wrong answers and questions worded incorrectly. Apparently they are authored by an outside AME and even when I brought a concern forward that was verified by my instructor and referenced in the text, it was snubbed by the CI and exams were never amended. Practicals are decent but if you finish before your classmates, be prepared for lots of library time instead of wrenching.
pros:
great facility
shiny hangar full of toys
a train + a bus away from downtown
cons:
tired instructors due for retirement
slow pace
Vancouver schools in general are very much international (more $$ for them!) and geared towards ESL students who need material drilled into them several different ways.
I'll prob see some flak for this but it is just an opinion and I just don't GAF.

I'll second most of that post. I found when I was there it wasn't as bad as agent0 describes, but there's at least some truth to it. I do remember multiple occasions where us "mechanics" would be sitting in the lobby with our feet up all afternoon waiting for the "puppies" to catch up. Every now and again we got a teacher who actually cared enough to let us go work on some cool side projects though.agent0 wrote:I'll prob see some flak for this but it is just an opinion and I just don't GAF.
I didn't find the course to be easy to the point of boring, but that may have just been due to most of the topics being stuff I was genuinely interested in. As I mentioned earlier though it is also somewhat geared for the never turned a screwdriver in their life kids, so if you do speak English and know which way the wrench goes it's not very hard to sail through with 80s and 90s for most of it as long as yer paying attention for the most part.
As far as the exams not being changed, we encountered similar issues from time to time, and it sounds like nothing much has changed. But to be honest in my real world experience, real world companies often don't really change either. Sure they hire new staff, start new programs, and slap on some fresh paint every now and again, but deep down they are still the same place they were before...
