Simple flight simulation game - recommendations for mobile and PC

Post by Kranzer »

Hi,

I've been looking a simple flight sim games that a kid could play on a PC with gamepad or on a mobile.

I found that Take Off - The Flight Simulator recently is this kind of game. It has also iOS/Android version and recently it was released on Steam for PC and MAC.
Biggest advantages that it runs on weaker machines and it is cheap to buy for all platforms.

There are also similar games such as Infinite Flight, Aerofly 2, X Plane 10. Do you know any other titles similar?

Last release of MS flight sim was free. I presume it's better than the 2003 version which was decent.

Sorry, I might have gave bad info since you need a bit more computer than a tablet to run MS Flightsim and it is not simple.

So they won't be playing with it in a car but, if you buy a decent yoke it is extremely realistic except for landing. Most kids who are interested in flying would like that, even an 8-10 year old. Initially it will be very difficult but if they stick with it they can fly with incredible real world scenery. It even had flight training sessions.

Some think landing is fine too but I find when you land a real airplane there are quite a bit more motion and peripheral view cues, that are missing sitting on a chair looking at a monitor.

I never tried X plane but I think it's similar.

XPlane supports Linux, but the newest version refuses to run on AMD graphics cards (!!!). So I just use FlightGear, which doesn't have as good scenery, but has great aerodynamics, instrument quirks, etc (watch the mag compass in a turn). I'm usually practicing IFR procs anyway, so I don't need little animated cars driving around the roads.
