A PPL doesn't expire, but the medical validity period can lapse. If by CFI you mean Certified Flight Instructor, that's an American term. Up here the CFI is the Chief Flight Instructor, AKA the boss of the training side at the flight school.

It's been a while but I seem to remember that you don't need a valid medical to log dual. You will of course need one for any solo flying and for admission to the written exam and the flight test.

That was exactly what I was asking.
I don't have to have my ADB and my medical upto date to log dual, right?

What do we say when our medical expires and a PPL is no longer worthy?

We say our medical is expired. There’s nothing wrong the licence itself.

You absolutely don’t need a medical to log dual. You need a medical to exercise the privileges of your licence etc., such as being PIC. Most students begin training before their medical certificate is received, and they log the dual time during that period.

You don't need anything to log dual if there's an instructor in the right seat.

And, yeah, CFI means something different here in the Great White North.
