Really no 700question on IATRA?

Post by Mtlplt »

I read here that the IATRA isn't just for commercial pilots so the exam has no commercial questions. Studying the Harv's Air product, it has a dozen or so sections on commercial regs...
can i skip that part for now (for time issues)?

yes,

This post from two years ago put the idea in my head; it seems to be misleading.

These references are recommended to self study for the current IATRA exam:

Tip: The IATRA exam is to qualify for a type rating on a 2 crew aeroplane, not to be captain of a 705 airline operated 2 crew aeroplane (that is what the ATPL is for). Therefore, you can disregard commercial operations related material (703, 704, 705 operations, for example). Your focus should be on high level, high speed operations in a complex, heavy 2 crew aeroplane which will include, for instance, principles of high speed flight such as Mach number, complex weight and balance, high level meteorology, principles of turbine engines, heavy aeroplane systems such as hydraulics, anti-skid, performance charts for take-off, cruise, landing etc. A wealthy PPL having purchased a 2 crew Lear or Citation without ever intending on flying commercially would write the same exam - yes it is weird but there are some lucky pilots in this situation.

Study hard and get a good score on your IATRA and you will find the ATPL SARON and SAMRA will be easier when you get around to writing them when you have the flight hours to sit them.

There are some good pointers and tips on this website in terms of what to expect on the IATRA but it is better for your overall knowledge to have completed the full TC recommended study in the first instance.
