Unethical instructor
Does anyone know if there is actually a code of Conduct for flight instructors? If so is there any ramifications to freelance instructors who behave unethical and or even criminally? Where does a student go to discuss the behaviour of a freelance instructors
Re: Unethical instructor
Your local law enforcement agency is responsible for upholding the Criminal Code of Canada. Or if you think a Canadian Aviation Regulation was contravened, contact your local TC office.

Re: Unethical instructor
I would start with Transport Canada and see what they say.

Re: Unethical instructor
You're telling me! My instructor is a criminal, and I can't wait to report him/her to each and every gubmint agency that opens! He/she once hurtled me towards the Earth at 250 IAS!
(No, there is no college of flight instructors that I am aware of - you need to find their Transport Canada inspector and report him/her there, and I'm sure some fellows here can direct you to the correct place to do that.)

Now, a code of conduct for students, that is something we should all get behind...

Re: Unethical instructor
If only there was a College of Professional Pilots that this issue could be referred to...

Re: Unethical instructor
There are students and there are pilots. Students try to die and pray their teachers save them. Teachers try to live and pray their students try to also.
Students have fun. Pilots push their limits and trust their instructor.
As I'm planning a wilderness trip, this old nugget comes to me - "a superior pilot uses his superior judgement to avoid the use of his superior skills", as I plan a wilderness trip in the boreal, getting sage advice from a both experienced expeditionist and experienced pilot...
Meh, I know nothing...

Re: Unethical instructor
That's like asking if there's a code of ethics for grader operators, and wishing for a college of professional grader operators where one grader operator can judge the ethics of another grader operator. It might make sense if you're a grader operator but the rest of the planet will just find it hilarious.

Re: Unethical instructor
I take it this more of an issue of an instructor over charging for ground briefing time....
Re: Unethical instructor
I see it differently. The minute that a pilot stops being a student, that pilot is at higher risk. There are students and there are pilots. ........
Students have fun. Pilots push their limits and trust their instructor.
To the original question, It depends what the offense is, as to who might be an authority. In some cases, there may be no more recourse than simply not flying with that instructor again. Not everything in life is regulated by an authority....

A brief outline of the situation would help people give you some advice about its resolution.

Re: Unethical instructor
What do you mean by unethical,,, is he overcharging you, is this a money issue, or is it a flight training issue, if your at a flight school take it up with the CFI, if its a freelance instructor then find yourself another instructor, Freelance instructors on private aircraft can charge what they want, as long as your willing to pay the asking price, as for ground instruction the same applies.

Re: Unethical instructor
Different organizations, like the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) and the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) have published codes of ethics (voluntary adoption) for members or those who are looking to adopt practices of excellence for their profession.
Other than that, there are the regulations and standards.

Re: Unethical instructor
I see it differently. I have never stopped being a student, in anything I've done. Perhaps I should rephrase - there is a difference between a student and a proffesional. All true professionals are forever students, but not every true student is a professional.
