Maximum holding speed for a civil turboprop aircraft?
I am studying for the SARON (ATPL exam) and studying with the Aerocourse study resources and am having trouble with a questions regarding max holding speeds. Here is the questions;
The maximum holding speed for a civil turboprop aircraft at an assigned altitude of 7,000 ft ASL is:
a) 175 KIAS
b) 200 KIAS
c) 230 KIAS
d) 265 KIAS
The answer is c) in the book and correlates with 10.7 Speed Limitations in the AIM. But I have read it numerous times that Propeller Aircraft (Including Turboprop) Max holding speed at MHA to 30,000 ft is 175 KT IAS making a) the correct answer.
If I could get clarity on this, that'd be great. Thank you.

Re: Maximum holding speed for a civil turboprop aircraft?
The holding speeds were recently revised by TC as per current AIM.
You are probably remembering the old rules which have now changed; any source that is more than about 2 years old will be based upon the old rules.

I believe what you're referring to is the old rules (attached) which were updated (in 2018 if I recall correctly) to what you're seeing in the AIM now. As usual, after a rule gets updated a lot of the reference material lags behind.

Right on. Thank you very much for the clarification.

Has this changed again?
I am looking at the current AIM (March 24th - October 6th 2022) and section 10.7 "Speed Limitations" shows the speeds based on altitudes.
At or Below 6 000 ft - 200 kts
Above 6000ft up to and including 14000 ft - 230
Above 14000 ft - 265
I don't see anything regarding turbojet or turboprop.
Also need clarification as I have my IATRA next week.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Maximum holding speed for a civil turboprop aircraft?
Holding speeds are now based on altitude and not engine type

ok makes sense, thanks for confirming.
