The Air Canada OTS thread

Post by watermeth »

ok lets start something specific to this posting and grab some statistics to have a better grasp of the situation.
you can participate to the poll and bring some extra info like how long after you completed the app did they call you, etc...
you can also specify for which of the regionals listed at the end of their questionnaire you're working for. please, DO NOT participate in this poll if you already interviewed or received an invitation thanks to a PML. you guys are special and are not OTS applicants.
that'll be easier for everybody to see if there's a trend.
that could be useful to know.
good luck to all !

Is over 12500 still a thing? Does a king air 350/1900 separate you from a King air 200 pilot? I can see 705 ops vs all other ops. High density airspace vs NWO airspace.

The statistic that you should be perhaps focusing on is level of post secondary education.
University Degree
Collage Diploma
Aviation Degree
Aviation Diploma
High School

Correct.

The only pilots that will be joining AC with only a High School education are from the Regional pilot move up. AC has,for many years, given high preference to those with University or an Aviation diploma. Military pilots are the one exception. Post secondary education has been the norm for over 25 years.

+1 for post secondary. Canada usually follows the US. If you look at airlines like Delta and Alaskan. A University Degree is required, not just preferred...

No university degree or post secondary education. It's what ticks their boxes.

Curious, have you been contacted for an interview? For that matter, has anyone who's posting credentials been contacted?

In this case I am sure there is more to the story! AC still answers to the Fed's on minority and diversity hiring. Been this way since 1978 in the Flight Ops department. More than a few examples where flight time and experience has taken a back seat over social responsibilities. It is the Canadian way.

Was hired with 3800 TT, 800 multi crew turboprop PIC. No post secondary at all. No training background, and no my dad doesn't work for AC. I'm a straight white anglophone guy, for those that would jump to conclusions. Hired OTS. Time from app to interview invitation about 1 month.
Contrary to what some would have you believe, having a degree is not necessarily required. I have met several other AC pilots hired in the last 5ish years with no post ed. Has this changed since PML? Maybe, but stick around long enough and you'll realize these things change constantly, and therefore nothing can be called "the norm."

Just curious what people thought. I was contacted for an interview in 2012 but had made a commitment elsewhere at the same time and politely declined. I'm applying again now and wondering what that effect if any will have on my current prospects.

I'm in the exact same position, dtpilot. Declined an offer to interview early 2012 based out of respect for my current employer taking a chance on me first. I'm thinking of applying again.

I did receive an email back from a rep but I can't for the life of me find the response in my mailboxes. I do seem to remember he said to just reapply when an opening was posted and go through the same process.

Can't really help much more than that.

Considering the posting was up Mar 3... they must be gathering apps in a pool..Maybe once they have a sizeable pool they will start sending calls out by April

All we can do is wait and start posting info as we get it. Can anybody comment based on the last bid how many positions are/will be open.

All the best to all
