737MAX pilot career progression?

Post by A321 »

Curious if 737MAX trained pilots are encouraged by the company to move to fill open vacancies on other fleet types? Are many new hires trained on the 737MAX living a life on the ground in YYZ or YUL receiving flat pay without per diems for the last 9 months?

First question - No..... recency training have been ongoing since the grounding. Reasoning behind keeping guys on the plane is once the return to service, you want those planes as quickly as you can back in the air.

Second question - Yes & No..... no new training as been done since the grounding of the fleet. This free up the space for the recency training of the current qualified pilots. Yes, most of the FO trained on the MAX were on flat pay and have been payed without per diems since the grounding.

There has been no encouragement to train off the aircraft. A previous bid showed additional vacancies. Timelines are changing but they have to be able to hit the gas when the aircraft does come back. It may have been different had the length of time been known at the outset. Basically we are pot committed now.

New hires receive their monthly guarantee. Those not on flat pay receive what is outlined in the 737 MOA or whatever their contractual position pays. i.e. ACP (check pilot). No per diems. It has cost some significantly financially, and others on different fleets significantly in lifestyle, covering for the downtime of the 737.
