Layoffs need to last much longer than 3-6 months to be financially viable.
How do you like your crow because you also said “mark my words” no layoffs will occur?

The Early retirement incentive looks pretty good. It might be closer to 25%
What might be closer to 25%? If senior guys elect to take the early retirement then even less guys would get laid off, no?
The newsletter from the MEC does not explicitly say Early Retirements will mitigate layoffs. I know there is an assumption running around that this is so. But it’s not the way I read the MOA. Actually it’s not clear.

I’m completely open to being wrong!

Do you have anything specific that ties ERIP to mitigating the further 600 furloughs? I say further because 162 got notice today making the real number 762.

762 furloughs plus 500 ERIP = 1262 or 28%
Isn't it 600 max, 162 inclusive? The MOA begins in April, those 162 are laid off in May.

The 600 is inclusive of the 162.

Just going to wait for clarification. The furlough section leaves multiple ways to interpret it.

To be clear though furlough notices went out to 162 tonight. There was no waiting until May 1.

I read it, hopefully wrong, that there are two groups. Initial group hired after Jan 1. Next group 600 no sooner than May 1.

Again I could be very wrong on assuming the 600 is not inclusive of the initial group.

Ya you're right, that could definitely be interpreted a few ways. Everyone I've talked to has assumed 600 without question.

They have also been assumptions the ERIP is furlough mitigation. I’m not saying it’s not. Just saying there is no clarity at the moment.

Can't get into too much details..

Bottom 162 is the final number (or close to it)

Staggered layoff dates of may 1st and June 1st
162 out of 4600?

Not meaning to sound insensitive but in these challenging and unpredictable times every action should be taken for a purpose.

A massive portion of the AC fleet is idled. What is the specific purpose of getting rid of the 3.5% lowest paid pilots at AC?

I'm just passing on the info, I wish I had a say in this. Tough situation.

Air Canada mainline about to return to being a 767 airline again? With oil at $20 a barrel why not!

Also worth mentioning, I was told the 162 are laid off regardless of how many of the 500 eligible ERIP pilots take the deal.

What a change. Going from 900+ vac to a potential of 600 layoffs.

Do you keep your travel benefits on furlough?

I feel for all of my airline brothers and sisters, but that guy rubbed me the wrong way. Guys like him are the reason why people want to see Air Canada fail.

People need to look at what is happening around the World.

85-100% fleet groundings with the same percentage of lay-offs.

Borders are closing around the World - then there will be a lockdown preventing domestic travel.

It's an entirely New World and we will all have to adapt to the new reality.

I am not in the working world, presently, but sympathise completely. Eric is just scared; as most of us are. As bad as it is, you have to put your own oxygen on yourself first. People can forget this.

I have to say, well done ACPA and Air Canada. In a time where airlines are parking fleets and laying off anywhere from 85% to 100% of their pilots, some never to return, I would say that a layoff of around 13% at AC is very remarkable. There is no way we could have done this back in 2003 and I am incredibly proud that both our management team and Association were able to come together in such short order. No doubt there will be a crowd of naysayers and judging by what I read here, most of whom likely post on this forum. I am happy to see that every pilot on property is sharing in the burden. A great example of solidarity.

For those asking about travel benefits during layoff. I don't know the answer to that question but something far more obvious comes to mind at the moment.

Very good outcome. Could have been so much worse.

Sorry it wasn’t as bad as some of you would have liked. The jealousy and bitterness is palpable.

Hopefully the layoffs are short lived for everyone everywhere.

Fly safe.

I bet it’ll be a lot more than that. Especially given what’s going on right now. Will be interesting to see for sure.

I agree this outcome is quite reasonable for everyone, however 55 hour block month for flat payers isn't a lot of money. factor in commuting and I suspect EI would be a much better option for many pilots at AC.
