Swoop to fly to US

Post by 7ECA »

WestJet Airlines Ltd. says its ultra low cost Swoop airline will soon begin transborder service as it looks to regroup from a "deeply disappointing" second quarter when it was hurt by the impact of a pilot strike threat, intensified competition and soaring fuel costs.
From the CBC article:

Glad to see the media is still in for the hysterics, blaming the "labour dispute" for all the woes of the world...

That was always the plan. Domestic in the summer and South in the winter.

Gonna be interesting to see the pink wave slowly wash out the teal tails at airports like YEG.

This recent trend of hating on mainstream media and relying on social media is going to be the downfall of mankind.
The CBC is only reporting on what the CEO said. Feel free to go straight to the source on WestJet.com
"The impact of the threat of industrial action, in combination with the dramatic increase in fuel price and competitive capacity provided particularly significant challenges in the second quarter." Ed Sims, WestJet President and CEO.

Then there’s the backtracking on this decision. YEG-LAS has wj flights again. Who would have thought the citizens of Canada’s second highest income earning city wouldn’t want to fly on a cheap pink plane.

Wonder how many loyal customers, in one of our original cities, we have lost in this process?

Personal opinion, only a matter of time before the beat up 76’s go pink.
Looking forward to the scope clause.

Customer loyalty in the airline industry these days is quite thin compared with price. On average $5 is the price difference considered by revenue managers to sway a “loyal” customer to another airline for the same product offering. I would say no long term harm done, with the exception of two demanding customers who frequent FlyerTalk a lot.
