5 new planes. How many does that total?

Post by Airbrake »

Anyone have an idea as to what the actual count of planes to be delivered will be at the end of 2010?

It is great to hear that the slow and steady expansion continues.

WestJet Finalizes Term Sheet for an Additional Five Aircraft
10/30/2006
CALGARY, ALBERTA, Oct 30, 2006 (CCNMatthews via COMTEX News Network) --

WestJet (TSX:WJA) today announced that it has finalized a term sheet with Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE) for five Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft to be delivered in 2009. Details of the agreement include four 700-series aircraft scheduled for delivery in January, May, June and October 2009 respectively and one 800-series aircraft to be delivered in May 2009.

The agreement also provides WestJet with the ability to secure an additional three 700-series and one 800-series aircraft in 2009. The 700-series may be converted to 800-series at WestJet's option. Finalization of the transaction is subject to a number of conditions.

"One of our continued strategic drivers is ASM growth through fleet expansion," said Sean Durfy, President. "Having recently announced our most profitable quarter in history with increases in capacity, load factor and yield, we are confident the demand for WestJet's service in the domestic, transborder and international Caribbean markets will support the addition of these aircraft."

WestJet currently has a registered fleet of 62 aircraft, with committed deliveries scheduled for the remainder of 2006 through to 2009. By the end of 2009, WestJet will have a registered fleet of 81 aircraft.

Marking its tenth anniversary this year, WestJet is Canada's leading low-fare airline offering scheduled service throughout its 35-city North American and Caribbean network. Named Canada's most admired corporate culture in 2006, WestJet pioneered low-cost high-value flying in Canada. With increased legroom and leather seats on its modern fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, and live seatback television provided by Bell ExpressVu on the majority of its fleet, WestJet strives to be the number one choice for travellers.

Are these actually 5 new planes or did they just finalize the order?

My initial thought was it was over and above what we'd already ordered, but now that you mention it, I reread it and I missed something.

first it said:
"Details of the agreement include four 700-series aircraft scheduled for delivery in January, May, June and October 2009 respectively and one 800-series aircraft to be delivered in May 2009. "

Then the next paragraph:
"The agreement also provides WestJet with the ability to secure an additional three 700-series and one 800-series aircraft in 2009. The 700-series may be converted to 800-series at WestJet's option. Finalization of the transaction is subject to a number of conditions. "

So I take it 5 secured(probably options previously) and then 4 more options. Is that how the rest of you read it? possibly 9 aircraft in '09?

These aren't previous apotions. These are new confirmed airplanes, with additional options.

Also--"By the end of 2009, WestJet will have a registered fleet of 81 aircraft." That is confirmed airframes, not including possibles options exercised.

I found the other post for the original order for 3 700s and 1 800 for delivery in late '07 and early '08. So this order is additional. 8)

I don't really have a favorite. All 3 types all have their bonuses/detractors. I guess the best part is that I could fly all 3 in a single pairing. Keeps things interesting.

Ya. There must be subtle differences to keep it interesting. Boeing is a great product. Even though I'm partial to the Airbus. I"m on a Boeing now but still partial to the Bus. Guess because I'm flying an older Boeing.

personally I enjoy the 800 the most. A wee bit heavier on the controls and it seems to take the turb. a bit better. Looks cooler too  . And I get practice doing flap 40 landings in OGG.

cheers!

IMHO the 800 rides a little better. But I do like to be able to get up to 40 and 41 above the weather most times.

I like the -600. Feels like a sports car and goes direct the beacon when there are no noise worries. The -800 has to do a lot of step climbs.
