People should not have to fear both the government and the criminal. It should be that the criminal fears both the people and the government.

An impeccable example of Political Correctness run amok.
What a travesty that these fine men should have this process hanging over them for such a long time.
Still, for the left-wing, this is a perfect example of how prisoners are "tortured" by those trigger-happy military ruffians, and they need to be taught a lesson.
Oh, and I wonder if he was read his Miranda Rights?

Unbelievable. This is the kind of shit I expect to happen in Canada, not the US.

The Miranda warning is a reiteration of your 5th amendment rights. The Old Fogducker wrote: Oh, and I wonder if he was read his Miranda Rights?

When I was in, I read a number of people their Article 31 rights. Essentially the same as the Miranda warning, however slightly different because it applies to the military, and not civilians. I guarantee these warriors had the article 31 speech and signed a paper that they understood and whether they waived any of their rights, ie make a statement.
The article says they refused, Non-Judicial Punishment, a device used by commanders to punish but without leaving a mark on your record. Any commander who recommends NJP over summary court martial probably knows this won't go to far in the courts martial system.

Whoever edited that article to include all the different sizes, colors, bold italic and underlined text needs to be shot in the face by a team of navy SEALs.

Q: How should Canada react if it got invaded by another country? Should Canadians be polite, step aside and let the new masters in?
A: Absolutely. Do as the new Right wingers would recommend. Bow down and lick the new masters boots. Don't stand up and fight for your country. Shut up and give up. And heaven forbid if the new master attacks you, he is 110% justified because Jesszus sent him from Crawford to free you and bring Walmart and fat broads.

It's called due process of law and nothing to get your knickers in a knot over. I'm sure those SEAL's will be just fine. Now, could Blackwater contractors in Iraq survive a close examination of their activities? And how about the big question of what the United States was doing in Iraq in the first place?

His CO should have given them 3 weeks Liberty and ten grand cash - no receipt required ... and airline tickets to Amsterdam for a huge party.
So the weasel got a fat lip ... well boo freakin' hoo. His plight brings tears to my eyes.
Instead of getting a medal and leave, ... some social-climbing, promotion-seeking paper pusher has them up on charges.
That's the Obama armed forces for you.

If someday President Limbaugh orders troops into Canada, are you going to be front of the line on the border to lick their boots like a good Republican? The Old Fogducker wrote:His CO should have given them 3 weeks Liberty and ten grand cash - no receipt required ... and airline tickets to Amsterdam for a huge party.

Nope ... with the thousands of hours radio studio time I've got logged, and a huge soul music collection, I'm fully qualified to be Rush's replacement for Bo Snerdly.

Where is the alternative on the right? Where is intelligent counter argument beyond name calling and spreading fear of death panels?
Where is the republican leadership? Better yet, where is the republican party? It's divided. It has no sense of direction. There is a clear absence of intelligent debate. Foxnews offers an excellent venue for insiteful, intelligent vision of what should be done. Regrettably, it caters to fear mongering and lack of substance.
I can appreciate your frustration. There is no republican party today and their is no republican vision. It's book signing tours for quitters.
If you do the radio gig, make sure you wear liesure suits and a ball cap. Your audience will feeler a tighter connection with you when they see you interviewed on Fox.

I almost want them to elect Sarah Palin as President. If we could somehow isolate ourselves from the catastrophic results it would make for a very entertaining four years watching the American right justify the ensuing stupidity. But of course we can't isolate ourselves which is why it really should be the rest of the democratic world that elects the US President, not Americans.bmc wrote:Where is the alternative on the right? The American right has been taken over by extremists and frankly stupid loudmouths who now set their agenda. In my opinion Colin Powell was their last hope before Cheney got rid of him. Now there is no one.

No Republican party? What about the house, where things actually get done, where the real power is?bmc wrote:Where is the alternative on the right? Where is intelligent counter argument beyond name calling and spreading fear of death panels?

Make no mistake, were I an American, under no circumstances would I ever vote Republican in todays government, BUT:
The Obamessiah campaign brought everybody to believe, no more personal debt, high paying jobs for everyone, a new car in every driveway and government funded health care for all. (More than cynical, but you get the direction...)
There is no way he is going to rise to expectations, based on that alone I wouldn't expect Obama to be a repeat president. If we should see a double dip......I'd start wagering pay cheques.
The upcoming congressional elections should be an excellent indicator of the way things are going.
Re: Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Te
Lets derail another thread and bash American government.
OFD, as much as I'd like to blame Obama for the predicament these sailors are in, it's not the case.
Somebody (higher rank than those being charged) thought their was enough evidence to charge these warriors. They filled out the proper paperwork, read them their rights, and submitted that paperwork up the chain of command. The CO would call them into investigate, ask them if they are guilty, and proceed to an NJP. Since they said, "hell no, we aren't guilty of these charges!" the CO must pass along the paperwork to the JAG, where most likely a summery court martial will occur, IF the JAG thinks their is a case.
Like I said earlier, I doubt it will even get that far if the original idea was to NJP them.

I respect your information and will await further info on this matter.
They are supposed to be heard on December 7.
Personal opinion still is that they should have been given a medal, liberty, and a nice fat cash bonus ... oh, and unlimited shower time too ... LOL.

Rockie, Rockie, Rockie .... once again, you've got it all wrong.
I was referring to Marines. Of course, as an ex Air Force guy, the distinction would be lost on you.
Nark will clarify for you.

Oops, sorry. You only think Marines smell bad.
Re: Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Te
Rockie,
Marines smell pretty bad after a few days in the field... Even worse when all you have to shower with is 1.5 liter bottle of water.
Which reminds me:
When we were clearing customs in Kuwait (making sure we didn't have any war trophies), heading back to the US after 7 glorious months in Iraq, the Petty Officer (Navy NCO rank) inspecting my gear asked me how long I was in the field...
PS. The field is something you come home from on Friday. Iraq, Afghanistan and the few other places we can't stamp in our passports isn't...
