Well, colour me green. A guaranteed job flying heavy metal making CAD 106,000 in the first year and CAD 164,000 in the second year after only 1.5 years of instructing.

We get poverty wages at the regionals for 3-4 years and then a guaranteed interview and if successful another 4 years of embarrassing pay at the majors.

Remember hearing years ago that CEO's when asked why they are worth their huge salary, explained that they were paid to "peak around corners" basically taking an educated guess into future trends and see where they could save money, or increase share value....seems that these guys knew the trend of the coming pilot shortage especially in the states and how wages had to increase....so they managed to lock unions into longer term CBA's with low new hire wages...trying to offset the inevitable...

They play the long game....pilots don't.

There is a lot of this sort of thing going on down here in the US with regional airlines, and as with everything else, the devil is in the details.

This can be found on the Lufthansa website: "Participants that meet the required service requirements, performance record, and accumulated flight hours will have an opportunity to fly for United. "

Nowhere does it seem to specify what the service or hour requirements are. Looks like you could pretty much be denied for any reason, and it only says that you will have an OPPORTUNITY to fly for United. These type of programs are starting to pop up down here, and they seem to mostly be flashy gimmicks to lure young new hires in the door. From what I could gather, nobody has actually been hired at United to date, and this program has been around for at least a year I think. It seems that this program is FAR from a guaranteed flow program to United.

While the regional airlines are often scrambling down here to find qualified folks, Delta, United and the likes are not having ANY trouble filling classes. Pay them and they will come!

You get it because you accept it. Fly elsewhere, look at a different career. Maybe the issues is you did not look far into the future or around corners to see that its a race to the bottom. As a company why pay more for someone, if another person will do it for half... Its not just airlines, Didn't Toronto contract out half their garbage removal? saving the city millions..every industry, every sector, this is going on. Its very simple supply and demand. We talk about shortages, if that were true companies would be forced to offer more money, better schedules to attract talent.
