Training in time of Covid-19

Post by sierakiloyankee »

Does it make sense that recurrent training for pilot is still in force, during an epidemic. When lots are going to be laid off for undetermined time. I am asking myself why TC is not putting a Halt… and does not put derogation on training. I dont think that professional pilot would not be able to fly an airplane safely if training was a little more spaced this time. Pilots have been more exposed then most to the virus lately while flying people home. Since most are pretty healthy I think it is fair to think, that maybe a lot are infected but just dont know, has we are not request to test unless we have symptoms. Should we take more chance to spread or contract that virus, for the sake of training ??? While everyone is ask to stay home ? Does anyone think it is time for the big Union in this country, to call the minister and propose to put a halt on training ? just like they halt medical exam ? Just wondering….

Lol, I think op was talking about ppc recurrent training. I wonder about that too though. Just like TC pushed our medicals until Aug 1st, should they also push our ppc rides a couple months ahead before they expire since we can’t fly to sims across the continent?

I'm quite curious about this too. Our company is in an interesting position because the only sims we can use are in the US and I don't think we're going there any time soon. My PPC expires May 1st so the clock is ticking. Right now all of our initial and recurrent training has been suspended indefinitely. I spoke to my CP a couple days ago and right now they're still not sure what we're going to do. Even if TC allows an extension to PPCs then everyone is going to come due around the same time. Not good.

At my Airline (EU) all training has been stopped. Scheduled courses have been cancelled.

The Training department has been able to get extensions on both the Medical and the LPC (PPC) for everyone.

Our Pilots have Licences from several different countries - it's been quite a job for them contacting all the different authorities.

Transport is already working on the detail sand will have more out shortly. They (POI) can already give extensions on a case by case basis using the existing regs.
