Wouldn't it better to take an average over a period instead of a snapshot at 1600 GMT where different airline will be in different parts of their day?

Scroll halfway down the page and press play for time lapse of capacity by carrier.

This one is North American based carriers. You can select other regions. It is pretty illustrative of what is going on. However, it is not predictive.

You also need to differentiate between cargo and passenger flights - a number of carriers are flying their passenger aircraft cargo only.

If you want a really depressing statistic then look at the number of passengers/flight. I saw in the US it now averages 34.

Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business

Very hard to do now that certain airlines are flying passenger aircraft as dedicated cargo aircraft.

This site gives a pretty accurate count of aircraft in service. It’s a little more positive.

They are right on the numbers with my airline.

This article in The Atlantic paints an even worse image in the U.S.:

"The trade group Airlines for America... sent a fact sheet showing that in April 2020 travel bookings were down by 98 percent from last year’s levels and that the average domestic flight had 12.5 passengers on board. Later they reported that the average passenger count had fallen to 10—and this is despite some reports of planes operating with full passenger loads."
