Delta to run with 60% max capacity planes
Delta announced they will build a schedule that will cap the passenger capacity at 60% per plane.
I’m curious to see the pricing strategy and if we will see a quicker recovery in airline jobs because of that? And how will be the public reaction to the new price levels...

Since I’m flying the King Air, does that qualify me to fly the Queen of the skies?
Re: Delta to run with 60% max capacity planes
One thing offsetting the 60% max load factor is that, compliments of COVID, oil (fuel) prices are exceedingly low and with fuel being the #1 cost item for an airline that will provide some relief.
But since complaining about the cost of air travel is a national obsession (despite the real - inflation adjusted - cost of air travel being 40% lower than what it was 40 years ago) people will still complain as it is their God-given right to fly for cheap. Increased prices will take out the marginal traveler just as increased prices for anything take out the peoples at the margins of a purchasing decision.
Bottom line is that there will be a decline in the number of passengers based upon pricing, let alone COVID measures such as masks, long line-ups, etc.

So are they going to remove 40% of the seats, or just keep the same pitch, and leave some (middle?) seats empty?
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Delta to run with 60% max capacity planes
I have been away from it for a bit, but can an airline make money at 66% load factors?
And thats assuming 100% booked on every flight.
I don’t think using less and cheaper fuel is going to offset the potential drop in revenues.
Maybe Its a holding strategy for now, until things get better.
Slow the cash flow hemorrhaging.
It would be nice if they put in more space for each pax
The creative add on departments will no doubt be looking at new and innovative ways to add surcharges, fees, and no cost to them extras, to a ticket.

Re: Delta to run with 60% max capacity planes
The reduction will be offset by an increase in prices.
Re: Delta to run with 60% max capacity planes
You can put 100 people in a plane, or 300. It only takes one person with covid to infect others.
I'm curious if this move by delta is data driven, and proven to work, or is it just to make everyone feel better.

Probably just to make everyone feel better.
Airlines getting slammed left and right lately because of full flights.
Which to me proves how the whole thing is BS.
What’s the difference between running let’s say 5 JFK-LAX on reduced demand instead of for example 15 on normal demand? None. Plane is still jam packed.
The possible COVID exposure is identical. People are just
