Regionals hiring this Spring rumours

Post by pitottubey »

Hey all! I've been hearing whispers from multiple sources that the major regionals (porter, encore, jazz) are planning on hiring as early as this coming spring. (Not to mention that it seems everyone has been recalled). Anyone wanna weigh on this? :)

I'd be pretty surprised if Porter doesn't hire for the Dash 8, with an expansion of their fleet of nearly 100% next year (with options to expand nearly 300%).

If we assume that this vaccine mandate falls through, I don't see Encore hiring before winter of 2022. There are still 100+ employees on furlough.

Regarding recalls, it will be interesting to see what percentage of those laid off from the various airlines in 2020 will actually return...perhaps the Jazz bid coming out later this month will give an idea if they will have to hire by this fall or next spring....

I was told by a senior Jazz manager that we will be hiring by the spring of 2022 if all goes well.

I'm thinking that ~ 10% of us will have folded the tent and gone onto more lucrative/family-friendly/less volatile employment...

There were originally 675 pilots that were laid off at Jazz. So 10% would be roughly 67 pilots. I'd be surprised if that many of them hung up the hat because of a lay off that was less than 2 years. However that is entirely a guess

Some (but not a significant number) found better jobs and perhaps are not interested in returning to the $40k/yr job that Jazz is offering.

All numbers (including total returning pilots) will be known in a week or so. Hiring for 2022 will most likely be driven by these returning numbers and attrition. Likely no hiring at AC in 2022 so the main attrition destination will not impact Jazz staffing projections. If Porter gets off the ground with the E2 jet there may be some movement of E-jet qualified pilots from Jazz.

Plus over 100 left this year through the SSP buyout, and hitting age 65. Should go back down to about ~30-40/yr with the regular ERP and 65.

What is the SSP buyout? And what does ERP stand for? Thanks!

Any ideas related to Pacific Coastal’s future recall and or hiring plans?

Early retirement packages that are regularly offered (erp) or offered due to covid instead of layoffs (ssp)

I believe pasco has recalled everybody, who knows about hiring anytime soon.

I don't think many will give up on flying. I myself am making low six figures in another career at the moment and am excited to go back to being a Jazz FO/captain. This aviation thing really is an addiction.

I know that feeling! I just hope the "good times" that we've been seeing aren't temporary. I feel like they are based on this 4th wave nonsense.
