Skyservice Business Aviation Sold

Post by Rubberbiscuit »

Looks like it is a done deal. Does anyone know if this includes the entire corporate department or just the air ambulance?

I would have been very surprised if it was the whole thing. Russ Payson is definitely an aviation enthusiast and I can see him going stir crazy if he got rid of it all.

Does anyone have an idea of what changes will occur on the Medevac side of things now that they are sold? Will the planes and crews be staying in Montreal and Toronto?

Freeride...there are no changes at all to the operation. Same bases, etc.

I under stood that the majority shares in the commercial side of sky service sold in 2007.

Private equity takes majority stake in Skyservice Airlines
Last Updated: Monday, August 27, 2007 | 3:11 PM ET
CBC News

Canadian charter company Skyservice Airlines Inc. has sold a majority interest to a Vancouver-based private equity company.

Gibralt Capital Corp. will pay an unspecified amount of money for its investment in Skyservice, which runs charters to destinations in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.

I understood it was the management and air ambulance sector that sold only.

Bay 3.

Perhaps you are familiar with this side of BAS. No heavy checks since July 08. Staff, Ame's and apprentices laid off in Toronto and Montreal.

Guess you're not affected.......

I stand by what I said.

If they were "canned" recently it meant they were worth holding onto for as long as possible. For the licenced AME's it won't take them long to find work. Unfortunately it might mean travelling or doing contract work. Apprentices never fare well during bad times. Would you like to know what I did in the early 90's to survive????????????

And for the skydrol incident well shit happens and it did and it was fixed before the A/C was accepted by the "customer". I suggest you read DH8-SL-71-004 from Oct 27 1989 and I believe Skyservice did pay for that mistake.

I won't comment on the other items because it's just not worth it. It's all water under the bridge. Mistakes were made, lessons were learned ...........

I can tell you this: Anyone who screws up and doesn't own up to it does not deserve to be in aviation (or any other profession). You earn someone's trust by telling the truth not by hiding your mistakes.

Hey who are you, shoot me a PM....Are you still working there? In bay 3?

I agree there were a lot of lessons learned there this past year, I hope going forward they'll learn from their mistakes. As for poor management, I wouldn't quite say that. Everyone there tries their best. There's a lot of work in the hangar right now just no money to do the work, so the aircrafts sit. But when the money comes there will be a lot of work to be done. The only thing I'm afraid of for them is that when the work comes, all the people they temporarily laid off, including me, will have found other jobs and they'll have to resort to contractors, starting the cycle of the previous year over again. I hope that doesn't happen.

No, not really. I had some disagreements with some individuals there-those things are in the past. I should not have said what I did on this forum and I do sincerely apologize for the comments. I know it's a shi^^y excuse but a little resentment can go a long way with some alcohol. I am sorry, I'm not normally a trash talker.
