Usually they drown. Once the talons are set they can't let go. Great video.

Glassy water, not a breath of wind, and looks like he was close to gross (float depth). Notice he has to "pop" the right float to get the right wing flying, then slowly got the left one to follow suit. Well done by the pilot in those conditions. Ive had longer take off runs in a C206 on floats...what a dog!
