Google dropping a package from 65000 feet over YPL
Tried to search the internet for a bit with no luck. The other day was flying by CYPL and heard Winnipeg Radio on 126.70 make a call that there is package being dropped from 65000 feet, with a white parachute, white strobe lights and weighing 90KG. So curiosity sparked me and I asked Thunder Bay Radio if they knew what was happening, and they said GOOGLE had this package dropped 45 NW of CYPL. I am really curious what this could all possibly be about!

Unfortunately YPL is still there, so it wasn't a weapons test.

Running out of places to store their money?
Re: Google dropping a package from 65000 feet over YPL
They have this crazy project called (appropriately) Project Loon. The idea is that they have balloons flying around the sky providing LTE internet access to people who don't have cellphone service. The balloons can theoretically stay over the same area by varying their height to catch different winds. I'm not sure if that was what it was, just speculation. Anyway, it seems a lot more effort and less useful than putting up a few macrocell towers.

Google getting into the chemtrails business? Airlines have had that monopoly too good for too long I guess!
Re: Google dropping a package from 65000 feet over YPL
Huh. Very interesting! Perhaps they were "placing" rather than "dropping" the package - it looks like the balloons are meant to stay in the stratosphere. Hope this eventually leads to an end to cell phone (and internet) monopoly in Canada since the CRTC won't do anything about it.

Maybe we can finally have high-speed internet without driving to the mayor's office and standing beside the wall with a laptop.

LOL... many years ago in Northern AB, I remember having to stand on the roof of my car at a certain bend in the Peace River in order to make a cell phone call.

If this is Google's dramatic way of shitting on Pickle from a terminal velocity height, I support it "dropping a package". Maybe it'll take out the Winston again.

It is actually pretty amazing.... if you have endless buckets of money and really smart people, you can do anything...

Anyone know what kind of aircraft they'd use to drop something like that?
Thunder Bay radio, HEG is in the airborne section, call final for 27

no "aircraft" as I understand it. The baloon goes up, 100days later it comes downThe Barrel Man wrote:Anyone know what kind of aircraft they'd use to drop something like that?

Google getting into the KFC delivery cartel? It'll be cold if it was up at 65000!
