Holy Crap!!!! 100LL is HOW MUCH????

Post by Luscombe »

A couple of years back (when 100LL was about .70/litre) I considered changing the A65 engine in my Luscombe 8A for something with a few more horses, and other luxury items like an alternator/generator, starter, vacuum pump.

I'm glad that I was too lazy (or too cheap) to do that. at 3.5 - 4 gph, I might be the only private aircraft flying at my home field in a year (and not too often at that).

Looks like if this present trend continues, general aviation will be pushed even further into obscurity than it already is. Here's one for discussion, "What do you think of the future of GA in Canada?"

I think there will be less and less people training as the costs are out of control. 10 years ago a Seneca went for $140/hr, today its $250/hr. Used to work at a pilot shop and saw fewer and fewer people coming in to get pilot supplies and the ones that did were alot older than college students and only flew for pleasure.

What is the going rate for 100LL right now? How bout 80/87?

We burn approx 800kg/hr (JP4 etc...heck, we can also use mogas if we need to).....I'd hate to see the bills.

Edmonton, Calgary, most of northern alberta and bc are over $1.40 with taxes in for 100LL and $1.20 for Jet A.

Then there are the municpal airport authority landing charges, fuel surcharges, Nav Canada charges.......

Seems everyone who can, has their hands in our pockets.

Dont quit...complain

i trained at buttonville back in the 90's early 2000's and i must say that just in the past few years the number of planes i see fly over my head in this area has got to be down 75%.

with gas being what it is plus all these add on user fees the cost of general aviation is becoming unreachable for those who had a finger in it. its too bad cuz theres no better way to spend a day than renting a cherokee and hoping around from airport to airport.

Who cares , this will add to inflation and the next year wage-negotiations will reflect this, hence an increase in salary. All things staying equal.

d-to,
That is unless you work in aviation like we do, in which case higher fuel costs will be cited as the reason all companies must cut labour costs to remain competitive. Fuel cost increases equals pay cuts/job losses for pilots and aviation workers, not raises. Unless you were being ironical ;)
