Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
That's a great call. Most guys would've been trying to make that landing happen after the wheels touched down.

Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
I think they had already aborted when the wheels touched. At least I imagine that was the reason he had completely quit using the rudders by then.

It's a shame you believe that.schnitzel2k3 wrote:That's a great call. Most guys would've been trying to make that landing happen after the wheels touched down.

Not sure if the winds were beyond the aircrafts or the pilots limits but good decision to go.

You think he should've just kept going with that? [no sarcasm]Nark wrote:It's a shame you believe that.schnitzel2k3 wrote:That's a great call. Most guys would've been trying to make that landing happen after the wheels touched down.

Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
Might have worked out better if he lowered the wing into wind once he kicked the rudder in. Instead the wing actually is a bit in the wrong direction, he drifts then tries to get back to the centerline with rudder and is very nose into wind and not close to being straight.
Pretty easy to analyze from my seat here. Oh well, I've screwed it up before.

Not at all. What I was commenting on is that you assume most pilots will continue down a bad path.schnitzel2k3 wrote:You think he should've just kept going with that? Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
Let me say first that I have no experience in the RJ85/146...only 737 here, your trying to make a nice landing out of it when you should of planted the sucker and got the spoilers out to do what they are supposed to do....
Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
Any guesses on the wind velocity?

Looks like a direct crosswind.
Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
Hmmm. Wonder what the limts are on different gear. Know a friend of mine who flies a light bizjjet, he says it's good to 25 direct

"Demonstrated crosswind component 35 kt"
From the video, it looks like the pilot kicked out half the crab, then went back to full crab before landing, then gave up when it was obvious that the plane was landing sideways. I'm not sure what the correct technique is for this plane, but I'm guessing some combination of kicking out the crab, wing down, and planting it on the ground would have done the job...in my professional armchair opinion.

Not at all. What I was commenting on is that you assume most pilots will continue down a bad path.
I've met enough pilots that would've kept fighting, especially once those wheels hit. Not saying all, and my overly dramatic comment of 'most' probably could've been downgraded to 'some'.
Fair enough Nark?

I will be so bold and to say most pilots don't have the stick and rudder skills to make a x-wind a non event.

Agreed! Especially one approaching the demonstrated limits of a machine.Nark wrote:I like it.schnitzel2k3 wrote:I've met enough pilots that would've kept fighting, especially once those wheels hit. Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
Passengers on the left side would have enjoyed a nice view down the runway on that one.
Re: Just Could Not Kickout this Crosswind
I think he could have stuck it fine if he actually pushed, and held the rudder... mysterious control to some...
